- Age of Empires III: Complete Edition (PC) -- $0.10, down from $39.99
This is getting silly: Age of Empires III is ten cents on Games for Windows today

It's rare that we see games' price tags fall much lower than yesterday's $2 BioShock deal on Games for Windows. And yet -- today's GfW weekend sale completely blows yesterday's out of the water: For $0.10 (yes, ten cents), you can grab Age of Empires III: Complete Edition.

Hmm Games for Windows is really trying to compete with Steam. Wonder if this will sway consumers.

@Prboi Good Games for cheap? It seems to be working on me so far. I still like Steam, so it's nice to have competition.

Valve is monopolizing the PC download gaming side with steam. More competition is better for everyone. so I say "go Microsoft!" on this particular situation although it doesn't make me a happy camper.

FOR ANYONE WHO CAN'T INSTALL THE GAME BECAUSE YOU NEED A GAME KEY>
apparently they've been selling so many they've run out of game keys, but they'll get more within the week
Message from Wedge the Jedi (part of LIVE team) >
Due to the overwhelming success of the Age of Empires III sale, we have temporarily run out of keys to unlock the game. You can still buy the game at this amazing price and you will get/see a key in the next week. When new keys are added to the system you will be auto-assigned a key, there is no need to call support or take any other action from your end. We will post here on the forums when the keys are available and the next time you click 'View Game Keys' for the game you should be assigned one.
Thank you for your patience and we hope you enjoy the game.

I heard that you have to purchase this through the GFWL client and not the website to get the 10¢ price.

@Rollins - I did as well. When you hit "Download" it downloads the installer for Games for Windows Live. Unless there is some other way to get the game, you definitely need the client.

@ybfelix Yeah, shouldn't it be 8 MSP?
Though I think he's referring to Bioshock.

@WiNGSPANTT from TopTierTacticsco It should be 8 MS Points for AoE3 but if you select paying by MS Points they charge you 10 points, which is 12 cents. It sounds like the Bioshock deal came to 180 points, or $2.25 instead of the 160 points they should have charged to be equal to the $2 price. I guess Hoaxs doesn't mind spending an extra 27 cents across the two deals.

Starcraft is a different style of RTS that relies on heavy microing. SC games are interesting, and they have their fun moments, but it's almost like unless you can do cheap stuff where you just repeatedly go back and forth with a few units then you shouldn't even try to play. In the original SC every single "expert" would just micro so much that yes, it was impressive that they could do so much at once, but it was almost like, wow, that crap is too unfair that you can have 50 mutalisks all on top of each other so that it's basically impossible for their turrets to do anything.
AOE3 is my all time favorite RTS, with AOE2 as the second. The original AOE3 by itself left some to be desired, but then it was like, hey, TWC expansion is awesome! And then we got TAD and it was like everything coming together in perfect harmony. It's so cheap because it's been out for five years and doesn't have a bunch of Koreans obsessed with videogames fawning over it.
In AOE3 complete you have 14 civs (who are all far more unique than they initially seem, tons of maps, a variety of gameplay types, and it's made in the way that you have a huge number of choices as to how you will play. I've played thousands of games in AOE3 since it came out, and I'm still developing new strategies for my civs because they're just that unique. Not to mention the graphics are pretty sweet, I like how they have a more realistic look going for them than games like AOM.

While I thought Age of Empires III was a mistake in the gameplay direction they chose for the series, you can’t pass up ten pennies for a game, unless your hard drive can’t handle 2.75GB.

Actually cost me 11 cents after tax.

But seriously, when have you ever seen a game go this low other than pay what you want sales? You would be foolish not to buy this, even if you already own the game and hate it. it's ten frigging cents.

@KirbyCommando Exactly. I've never played an Age of Empires game and I doubt that I'll play this one much at all, but come on, ten cents? I didn't even realize they'd let you use Microsoft points to pay for it until I got to the checkout page, then I was like, I don't even have to get my credit card out? Cool.
