OnLive still has a public perception hill to climb, but the company is rewarding its Founding Members, the people who took the risk on the cloud gaming service, with some goodies.
In a post today on the service's blog, CEO Steve Perlman wrote that those who bought a PlayPass for one game will receive a promo code for another game, up to $50. Everyone who purchased two games will receive a voucher for a free OnLive MicroConsole. This includes "rental" PlayPasses as well, not just the unlimited "Full PlayPasses," as long as they were purchased before midnight last night. The first batch of MicroConsoles ship out on December 2 and Founding Member pre-orders will move to the front of the line for delivery.
The company's service has certainly impressed us, and with its future plans, along with the introduction of some flat-rate gaming, the whole cloud-centric concept is starting to seem decidedly solid.

Wow, that's pretty damned cool of them to do.
As time goes on, I feel more and more that I'd like Onlive to succeed. It's a pretty cool little service.
Of course, the main hurdle to get past is not 'owning' the games you buy, and what happens if for some reason you aren't able to access what you've purchased.

I've had OnLive beta on PC for less than a week and gone from skeptical about it to hardcore Onlive fanboy :D
I hope it does well, it has profound potential and does exactly what it says on the tin. I also love arena when I'm not doign anything to just sit back and watch others gaming, its a feature I wish PS3 and 360 had, just spectating friends matches and providing advice whether or not you have the game.
My only gripe like you said is the fact you don't own the game, and while my internet isn't slow, it isnt reliable either, it works fine one minute then cuts at another, then one day its perfect all day, and another day its on and off like a light switch every 5 minutes, its really pissing annoying, and as OnLive relies on internet connection, this can be frustrating, having to wait until the internet decides to behave itself before I can get back into my gaming session can sometimes be a turn off. But if you as well as I can get past these gripes, it's superb.
Now bear with me as I switch to Virgin internet connection ¬_¬ O2 sucks ass!

I'm a Founding Member but haven't paid for a full PlayPass, I suppose I can't buy one or two now and opt in.

I got my free game =D... wish I bought two games though... I would have loved to have one of those micro-consoles...
At this point I'm starting to wonder how someone could dislike OnLive... they're a company bending over backwards to gain peoples support... now thats the kind of costumer service that I endorse!!!!

If only they had games I cared about that I didn't already own.

@Faceless Troll That's my problem too. I love the service, but any games they have that I would pay for I already own. I really hope they are able to grow their library.

Very cool that they are doing something like this, I respect a company that actually puts in effort to get on a gamers good side

They are either very confident people will buy more games or very desperate. Although I have no interest in the service right now, I can see the potential for it to grow with the right infrastructure and price model

@Lerkero I'm going with very desperate here. This sounds a lot like the vast majority of founding members jumped ship at sometime and this is trying to breathe new life into them.

Yeah, it's pretty cool for the three people who bought two games ;)
Seriously though, I do hope they are successful, but I don't really see a market for Onlive at this point.

I really wish I had at least sprung for some rentals now... I've played a few trials, and I must say, if you have at least a halfway decent internet connection, OnLive is really great. My only problem was trying to play on the internet connection at my college. It's awful, and of course so is OnLive when I'm there. When I go home on weekends though, the entire thing is almost flawless. I totally see this going places.

I've been pretty impressed with OnLive's commitment to making us want to use the service as much as possible. It's good PR, too.

This is fantastic. I have liked Onlive ever since I was in the beta. So far I have got one free game for being a beta tester, one for becoming a founding member, one for today to say thanks for being a founding member, and they emailed me today saying that they will not be billing me for my MicroConsule and that comes with another free game (plan to get Assassin's Creed Brotherhood when it goes live). The two games I bought were on a half off sale.
So to summarize I have 6 games (5 and one coming with the MC), and the MicroConsule all for about $30.

I tried OnLive last week and I have no idea why anybody would like it. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the graphics (video?) but the lag ruined the experience.
I tried Alien vs Predator, and due to lag kept over-aiming at everything.
I tried Dirt 2, and due to lag was constantly oversteering. The framerate on Dirt 2 also stuttered quite a bit.
I tried Assassin's Creed 2, and couldn't string together any attack combos because lag made the timing off.
I have a 15Mbit cable connection, and virtually never experience any noticeable lag on Xbox Live, PSN, or PC games.
Perhaps in the future when we all have fiber connections OnLive will be viable, but I don't think the service will survive until then.

It's a shame they didn't care about all of the founding members, only some.
