What Bayonetta looked like before it was finished
42
As ludicrous as Bayonetta is, it was actually much tamer prior to launch. Platinum Games has released some pre-production B-roll, revealing the title's initial menus and gameplay -- specifically of note about the latter is how slow the game was and how much inappropriate slowdown it once employed.

Thank gawd they changed Witch Time to the dodge. And sped it up. And added Wicked Weaves. And generally made it into a giant knee buckling wet climax that we got, lol.

I don't really mind that they changed the look of Dante. Don't judge a book by it's cover. It could be the best DMC yet...

It's not just the look that matters. The developer, engine and the fact that it's a reboot, matters.
That said, the look is... guys it's so bad. The character looks like he has a diet consisting of the uppermost leaves. Why would anyone need a neck that long?

Why don't they just make it a new, dinosaur based hack and slash series? That idea is SOLID. Name one person on here that wouldn't play God of War with dinos.

This game is ok. I personally liked DMC better. I think it was just the fact that you played as a scan-dally clad woman that kept this game afloat

@Prboi this game was flat out awesome. Probably the only action game I've played through more than once. The combat system is so deep and fun. That's what kept me coming back.
*Spoiler* The chick was actually annoying with the stupid ass dancing at the end.

Ten hours in... no, maybe even one or two is enough, and the novelty of the character design wears completely off. If it got the critical and financial success it had, it simply HAD to have something else, something not everyone could see.

Oh God. It's so slow. And boring.
I would've liked having the old menu styles and the Beta-netta design as unlockables, though.

Wow, that entire video just feels wrong (and not in "all of the right ways" like the final product).
I personally loved THE HELL out of Bayonetta. I was previously a die-hard NG/DMC fanboy, but now my loyalties lie elsewhere. There wasn't a single wasted moment in the game; it only got better and better as you progressed.

DMC only got good at 3 2 and 4 suck thanks to capcoms ineptitude, Bayoneetta is a good game to take over for DMC since DMC sucks now.
And sorry the anorexic drug addict hollywood star that dreamt up to play Dante is sad.... tho if it's a large open world DMC game with better paced equipment and skills I will happyily buy it. If its another on the rails throw back like Castlevina:Lord of shadows.... I will pass...... if I want to watch a film I will watch a film if I want to play a game I want to play a game... films as games inherently suck....

Fun videos to watch. The game has come along way and taken it's place as the best action game I've ever played. It'll be hard for DmC or any other hack'n'slasher to top her.

The game is easily one of the best action games I've ever played (if not the best). Though the J-pop in it didn't feel... battle-y. I have to agree with others that the game just feels wrong at the speed shown in this video. I'm glad they chose the pace that was in the final product

I hope by "J-Pop" you don't mean the cover of "Fly me to the moon". The rest of the soundtrack sounded kinda jazzy so that's the only thing song that would more or less fit the description, and it is about as Japanese as the Statue of Liberty.

A pretty interesting window into the world of game design, I liked the final look of Bayonetta.
In regards to Devil May Cry,
I liked the 4th, my biggest complaint was that, as it was the first installment on new hardware- more of a focus was put towards graphics and cutscenes as opposed to varied and robust gameplay. I'd still like to see more exposition on Nero's origins and future... although it may be awhile if at all.

@shattercross Actually I felt that it was too focused to the mechanical component of the game to the detriment to the "artistic" aspect. By this, I mean that they game us a really fun to play newcomer with Nero, a refining of Dante's movepool (even if an abridged one) and then they proceeded to make us think as the rest of the enviorments as just sandboxes for us to try out the new combat engine. This worked as a detriment to the game in my opinion, as it resulted in recycled level designs and bosses. Recycled bosses are not new to the franchise but usually there is something new to the fights that keep them interesting, and Nero's "gimmick" is that his fighting style doesn't really change much and you only find new uses to your tools instead of expanding your arsenal.
I think that if someone had gone crazier with the storyline we'd have more interesting and varied demons to fight instead of reusing the same bosses three times (and sadly, all of the more uninteresting ones) and the same environments two times: even Team Sonic, a name which is synonymous of poor planning and gameplay nowadays, found a reasonable way of making two characters go through the same roughly similar levels, with similar gimmicks and overall look, feel different depending on which character do you play as.
In my opinion that was the greatest victory Bayonetta had over DMC4. It managed to have an even deeper combat engine while still keeping the gameplay fresh and varied. Even the second fights against the Cardinal Virtues were so radically different from their first encounter they can hardly be considered a proper "rematch", not to say from the proper final bosses, which are unique enemies and therefore have a greater impact than DMC4's final boss, itself a second fight against a previously fought enemy. In fact I could even argue this second fight is actually easier and less climatic than the first one.

Bayonetta was pretty good, although I played the PS3 version, which was inexplicably ugly at places.
I don't understand the DMC 4 hate tho. Its still easily one of the best looking games of the generation, and the whole devil arm mechanic really opened up a lot of possibilities gameplay-wise.
The thing I didn't like was the backtracking though . . . such a cheap way to artificially extend a game.

It looks ok with slower gameplay, actually... thought it'd be worse. Could be an interesting game option there.
