It launched a bit rough, but after patches and mods (such as STALKER Complete), it's easily one of the best shooters ever made.

It takes a little bit of determination to get out of the starting areas - your peashooter is a little too realistically inaccurate. But then you start getting drawn in, totally and absolutely. The atmosphere is incredible and these days the crazy system requirements aren't such a problem anymore.

@arkweld I had to register for an account just to say "HA!" to this. Everytime I pass through that area, I always say to myself "Get out of here Stalker!"

It's basically Fallout 3...except good, actually scary, the radiation is actually dangerous, the monsters pose a threat, and the atmosphere is unlike anything you'll ever see in gaming in my opinion.

Just a reminder to everyone, this game is a really, really scary game that a lot of people won't be able to play, like me.

I still bought it tough because its a steal.

I bought this game a while ago on Steam when it was on sale and I've only played a couple minutes of it. I liked it, but I just need a better computer to run it well enough so I don't get ganked by the very first group of enemies :(

So they can say,

"Hey, we compete with Steam. See? We have games on sale, too!*"

*Games are on sale for one day only. We retain the rights to refuse you service based on your location. Offer only valid in certain areas of the world.

If the GFW Marketplace website is currently not supported in your region / country then you can try the GFW Marketplace Client which has more countries enabled and has the same deal on the games. We are working on brining those other countries and regions online through the website.

@Wedge MSFT The worst part about the website though is that both times when I've bought something and clicked on download it tries to download the GfW software, which would be fine if I didn't already have it installed. So I end up firing up the Marketplace software and downloading it through there.

The website isn't available for Aus, you have to use the marketplace software.

Thanks for the input. The 'download' link after a purchase on the main page downloads our web-setup installer which makes sure that you have all the necessary software for the GFW Marketplace Client already installed and then tells the Client to go download the specific game you just purchased once you sign-in. Although the website replaces the need to browse and purchase items in the Client, the client still servers as the download and installation manager currently.

Although the Client is needed to download and install most of the games you do not need to start up the client to run the games once they are installed.

My favorite part is that you can use Microsoft points, which you can get free from Microsoft. I just wish I would've seen the AoE 3 sale in time.

Question though 'Stiq, why are you so slow? I sent you this tip like 8 hours before you posted it. Did it really take that long for you to follow the link I sent? Better qustion, why isn't someone there just checking this on a daily basis? It's called a bookmark, use it.

This is one of the best FPSes ever made after you slap the STALKER COMPLETE mod on it. More compelling exploration than Fallout 3, more atmospheric than any game I can think of, and as a result the frame of mind it puts you in is wholly unique to this game. An incredible achievement in gamemaking, this.

I agree with you. I just looked into the mod after it was mentioned early on that the MOD added a huge additional polish on top of grahpical upgrades.

Incrediable value for money and content quality offered by these two combinations.
$.99 S.T.A.L.K.E.R + Free S.T.A.L.K.E.R Complete Mod = A top class $59.99 console game (a la Fallout Vegas)

I'm pretty sure I have this on disc somewhere, but for a dollar, I'll buy the digital download. It'll be an excuse to try it again, as the first time around, I had too many technical difficulties to play it. New computer since then, so why not give it another try.

I also bought Blacklight: Tango Down yesterday. It's not bad, but it won't be replacing CoD.

On one hand these are good deals right. On the other hand, you know what MS is doing here, don't you? It's the brute force approach - they have the resources so they can afford to sell all these games for $.99. I mean, even the best deals on Steam never had full games for so low. Maybe it's cynical of me but the way I see it, they're gonna keep this up till at least one of the competing service start declining (probably D2D or Impulse) at which point they'll either buy them out or make another push to completely remove them from the market.

@2late2die I highly doubt that will be the case. I am willing to bet most people (myself included) will only ever buy games of GFWL if they are ridiculously discounted like this one, or AoE3 or Max Payne 2. For everything else, we will go to our usual places (Steam, D2D, etc.).

I love how gamers can now find a way to complain about ONE DOLLAR GAMES ON SALE. If they sell it for $60 they are evil. If they sell it for $1 they are doing it to push competitors out. Hey, it's digital distibution. D2D and Steam have the same game on their servers. Nothing is stopping THEM for putting it on sale for the same price either.
