Super Mario Bros. tricks explained with animated GIFs
40
With the launch of the 25th Anniversary edition of Super Mario All-Stars for Wii drawing near (this Sunday!), you may be seriously tempted to buy all those classic Mario games again for, like -- what? The fourth time? Think again! Not only is the "Limited Edition" Wii game a veritable ROM dump of the SNES All-Stars (which features graphically and musically enhanced versions of the NES games, by 16-bit standards), it's also missing a lot of the great "glitches" from the original games.
TASVideos has assembled a comprehensive guide to the elite tricks and tactics from the original Super Mario Bros. games -- with pictures! Animated pictures. It serves as a stark reminder to us purists why there's really no substitute for the originals, even when said substitute comes in a nifty box.

Complaining/caring about being upvoted/downvoted gets you downvoted. Making irrelevent posts also gets downvoted.
I have not done enough testing to see if this post that explains the aformentioned voting behaviour gets upvoted or downvoted, however.

usually moderate upvotes or neutral depending on the severity of the faux pas it's directed towards.

How did the 25th anniversary collection ever get released? It had the opportunity to take players through the entire Mario saga. It should at least have had SMB World 1 and 2 and Mario 64. I can't believe that they didn't even bothering changing the menus from Super Mario All-stars.

@Chazzr And I'm reminded that you are a terrible poster. The sting of OKs on this page have more than you're pretentious drivel. Do you really hate people, or is it possible that you hate yourself and are just trying to find meaning in video games?
There are fun glitches and that add to the game and there are annoying glitches that get in the way. My favorite memories in gaming actually come from hilarious glitches. Who here hasn't been reduced to laughing like a mongoloid at the swingset car launcher from GTA IV? (I'd link a video but iPhone formats url's strangely. You should be able to find plenty videos of it by searching)

I remember when I was a kid I accidentally did the wall jumps a number of times I fell down pits, but I could never figure out how I did it.

@Harrishun Don't feel bad. You also got horribly deadly snakes, spiders, sharks and jellyfish before we did.

Should have been a DS release. But then that would mean nobody would buy each Super Mario Advance game when they're re-sold on the 3DS for 12 bucks a pop.

@DangerMouse001 Much rather would get this collection then the overcompensated bright graphic-enhanced GBA port with inferior audio, but whatever.

I seriously doubt nintendo will ignore GBA games. It may not be there day one, but i imagine it will be soon after. There's way too many good titles to sell, much more than the GB had to offer. Plus i doubt many are old enough to enjoy the games other than the nostalgia of the monochrome GB games, except those who grew up with it. Don't get me wrong, the games were great for their time, but most didn't even have full battery back-up features. Other than super mario land, Link's awakening, & the pokemon series, i doubt they'll do too well.

or the other GTA game (can't remember which) where you could make the tank fly by repeatedly shooting backwards... lol.
some of my favorite moments in gaming came from glitching with people in Halo 2.

"there's really no substitute for the originals"
That should read "there's really no substitute for an emulator" because it would be hard or impossible to do many of those tricks on an original console (e.g. press left+right at the same time for exactly 1 frame).

@erh You would think so, but there have been many people that have achieved frame precision controls in a few games. One of the most famouse Super Metroid runners Satoru 'Hotarubi' Suzuki, for example, is able to do things that were previously thought impossible on a console.
