Mass Effect 2 lands on PS3 Jan. 18 in US, Jan. 21 in Europe
54
Speaking exclusively to IGN, Electronic Arts has given Mass Effect 2 on PlayStation 3 a solid release date of January 21 18 in North America and January 21 in Europe (that's in twenty eleven, folks). As previously revealed, BioWare is including a gaggle of bonus content with the Blu-ray version, not to mention a brand new "interactive comic" that fills players in on the story of Mass Effect 1. Given what we heard today about Mass Effect 3, we're just hoping everyone has enough time to catch up before a whole new outerspace epic arrives.

$60 seems like a lot though for a year old game, even though it comes with some extra DLC.

@Raffi256 im sure itll be $20 by March...just like Bioshock.

A year old, two years old, seven years old. It doesn't matter.
Mass Effect 2 is worth every penny.

Yep. I wish I had got the collector's edition, mainly to give Bioware more money because I think Mass Effect is miles ahead of any other singleplayer game out there, but also because the default box art is just horrendously bad, while the collector's one looks good.

Really? What about all those who bought the 360 version at full price on launch date and then bought the DLCs? That's way more than $60.
Please, learn logic and mathematics.

I disagree. I'd be pissed if I bought all of this content on Xbox for full price when I could have gotten it all for $60 a year later

@DrChristopher In one scenario I save $20 or so. In the other scenario I get the game I want a year earlier. I like saving money and all, but $20 isn't enough to wait an entire year.

I actually sold my copy back to the store for 40 bucks after getting 1015G in it. Will rebuy it on the GOTY edition (inevitable!) that has all DLC. I figure I can basically get away with getting free DLC.
Posted: Dec 9th 2010 7:28PM mywhitenoise said
@MyAbsolution but you already lost $20 by selling it...so technically you're not getting it free.

Got a typo on the dates in the article:
"a solid release date of January 21 in North America and January 21 in Europe"
Just wanted to point that out!
And ME2 was a great game, just not sure if I'll be willing to spend $60 on a game I've already beat.

@NoMoreHeroes64 Then don't? Why would you consider buying it if you've already had your fill?

I still think they're doing Mass Effect for PS3 wrong. Yes, the PS3 should get it, but why not wait until the last game comes out and release a compilation? I'm sure by then, Microsoft's exclusivity on the first game will have expired.
Posted: Dec 9th 2010 7:52PM Halwende said
@MowDownJoe - they're probably thinking more along the lines of staggering it over multiple financial years, it makes sense to make cash each year (and have good financial results both times) by releasing this now and ME3 later rather than less income now and one big spike later (those less income year(s) are bad for shareholders!)

you don't understand how that works. they PUBLISHED the game on the 360, meaning that exclusivity for the first game will stay for as long as the 360 and the PS3 are around...

I'm on my second run through the game and must say anyone with a PS3, buy this game first day. Everyone deserves to enjoy Mass Effect 2. Who cares if it's later than those of us who have played it, it will be a great new game for newbies to the series. Too bad Microsoft owns the publishing rights to Mass Effect 1.

Amazon still shows Jan 31st, and has for months. I really hope it gets the sooner release date though. I had been playing ME2 on PC, but stopped when I heard it was coming to PS3. Figured it'd be better to get the trohpies and such as I play through.

What the... That was in a 4PlayerPodcast video. That girl had incredibly small arms for a split second, then went back to having normal sized arms.
Normal or not, I'll be glad to have Raptor Arms Girl on my boxart any day.

I was going to buy the PS3 version, but then I saw the Xbox 360 version for $10 on Amazon on a lightening deal. DLC or not, they are crazy if they expect people to pay that much for the PS3 version.

5$ for the game.
15$ for Zaeed and the Cerberus network.
7$ for Kasumi.
7$ for Overlord.
10$ for Shadow Broker.
2$ for Aegis pack.
2$ for Firepower pack.
2$ for Costumes pack.
2$ for Equalizer pack.
= 52 dollars, or 5$ and 3760 Microsoft / Bioware points.
This is excluding any promotional items that are included in the PS3 version, such as the exclusive comic that essentially backdrops for ME1 and such.

How are they handling the ME 1 backstory? Any chance we can fill in some of the blanks ourselves, a la KoTOR 2? I'd get ME2 on PS3 just to continue the series on the PS3, since my Xbox died again.

I'm gonna rebuy it on ps3 and keep it this time. I traded in the 360 ver 5 weeks after beating it because I got bored with it.
Doing that means I missed out on the awesome dlc, which at the time I couldn't care less for.

For those of you complaining and ranting about how you can get the whole deal cheaper on the 360...this isn't for you. This port is for PS3 owners that weren't able to play it....you know, without having that 360 you're talking about?
Posted: Dec 10th 2010 2:03AM SoCoolCurt said
i keep skipping this because i didn't feel like going through 1 and 2 but i think i may buy this on PS3. i know i'll be off from work for a few months around that time so something like that would be good to play. kind of makes my 360 purchase look even more questionable though since i've really only played like 3 games on it in the 2 years i've had it. every time i get ready to buy one of it's exclusives, it comes out on PS3 and i just buy it on there. maybe i'll get Gears 3 when that come out.
