Telltale reveals a familiar foe for Back to the Future adventure games
38
Marty McFly's eternal nemesis, Biff Tannen, will indeed rear his ugly, manure-covered head in the five-part Back to the Future: The Game series, as revealed by an update to the game's official site. Tannen, who's voiced by part-time electro-rock musician and part-time voice actor Kid Beyond (best name ever?), will play lead antagonist to Marty and Co. during their adventures. For a better idea of his role, check out the official site's recently added, slightly spoilery guide to the series' five episodes.
Wait, did we say "lead antagonist?" No, that's not right -- we imagine the real foe in Telltale's adaptation is, as ever, the very real threat that Marty will create a time paradox, sundering our reality into infinite, unsustainable sub-realities, jettisoning our very existence into the realm of oblivion. Compared to that, some jumpsuit-wearing thug isn't all that intimidating.

I dunno, Griff... compared to a jumpsuit like THAT, a time paradox doesn't sound so scary.

To be perfectly honest, the jumpsuit-wearing thug has screwed with time before.

Why does Biff look like he fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down?

Are they getting the original voice actor to reprise his role?
Posted: Dec 9th 2010 11:35AM Drakkenfyre said
Seems like the only original actor is Christopher Lloyd. Michael J. Fox can't do it, and Tom Wilson would do this in a heartbeat. I wonder why they didn't get him to do anything.
From what I read about him, he is very receptive to Back to the Future stuff, so he more than likely would jump on this. I wonder if Telltale even tried?

Maybe they saw him in the Universal's Back to the Future: The Ride and decided that was so bad nobody will accept him playing the role again.
Maybe that ride was cool in the 90's but I went on it before they closed it and it was the lamest ride there.

See, that's the thing with meddling agents. They turn down something that everyone apparantly but them know would be good with you.
That's how we almost didn't get Michael J. Fox as Marty. The director of Family Ties met with the creators of BTTF, trying to get him to let Michael J. Fox to work on it. The role was written for him. He's the person they wanted. The director told them no, he wasn't going to release him to work on anything else, and that at that time he would be concentrated on more in the show. He refused to even show Michael J. Fox the script, because it would piss him off he wasn't allowed to be involved.
So they went with Eric Stoltz. They filmed 5 weeks with him, and it just wasn't turning out good. He was too serious, and the comedy was suffering. So they went back to the director of Family Ties, and he agreed to let Michael J. Fox film it, since one of the other actors from the show was now back to a more regular schedule, and he wasn't having to carry the show. So he filmed BTTF at night, and Family Ties in the day.
I don't know what other things Tom Wilson is doing now, but I know he's doing stand up comedy everywhere. If I were him, and someone came up to me, and said "Hey, you know that character you played? The one you played for three movies, an amusement park ride, and various products since then? A company wants to do a game, with your character, and relatives of your character. And they wanted you. But your agent turned it down, and didn't tell you." I would fire my agent on the spot.

He must have recently made a change in his stance, because I checked his website, and he now no longer has anything to do with anything BTTF. He won't even sign BTTF merchandise. He says he wants to distance himself as a pop icon, and persue "things he's interested in". I guess that happens when you become one of the most famous characters in one of the most famous movie series of all time. Then you come to resent it.
As opposed to someone like James Doohan, who played Scotty. Someone asked him once if he ever got tired of saying the lines that made him famous for 40 years, and he said "Why should I? Those lines made me famous!"
My point about agents still stands. I have heard about more than one that turned down a role that an actor later regretted not doing, and ending up screwing the actor.

@SirBucket
If Wilson went on to say that he wants to do it, I wonder why Telltale didn't try a second time? His reps aren't going to prevent him or forbid him from taking a job, and one more original cast member could only do good things for the publicity.
Alas, it doesn't really matter anyway, since the real antagonist of this game won't be Biff Tannen, it'll be Telltale's positively terrible control scheme.

Back to the future, you are sort of evil in a way - ruining the lives of others in a way of which they have no chance of correcting.

I don't know why either but the only reason I could think of is the file restrictions on XBLA titles. This isn't the first time games didn't come out on the arcade because if file restrictions. MS better fix this fast. Every other game by tall tale games is on live, why not make an exception. I'm sure MS could bend their own rules

Anybody else absolutely Hate the art style of the BttF games? I'm sure they will be fun but I don't think Ill every be able to get into them because of the art style.

We probably had three choices.
Stylized, like we have here. Photorealistic, where it looks not quite right, and everyone looks creepy, or some off-the-wall cel shaded stuff. I think this is the best of those three options.
I would have loved photorealistic, but I know Telltalle wouldn't pull it off. Pulling that off convincingly is hard.

Yeah I think this style is a good pick over a photo-realism style. The Ghostbusters game looks pretty good, but it looks like some creepy middle ground between realistic and cartoony.
