SSX: Deadly Descents debuts at Spike VGAs
63
What is SSX: Deadly Descents? It's the next SSX game of course, silly! A brief trailer shown at tonight's Spike VGAs shows a distinctly darker, bro-ier snowboarding game than we're used to from the series -- "Nothing is more bone-chilling than reality!" is its tagline, for instance. Some consolation? The game will apparently use real world landscapes. Then again, we're happy as all get out to see anything from SSX.
So, in summary: snowboarding, SSX, EA, bros, real-world environments. We've added the trailer after the break, so head past and see for yourself!

I spent so many hours in ssx, every single one of them-
my favorite games of the ps2-gamecube generation bar none, have wished they'd come back, been pissing and moaning about its absence in the nex gen consoles for literally years....
and now its here.
video games are video games again

I heard its being worked on by the skate team. I loved SSX for its goofy, exciting, vivid arcadey snowboarding races. I really don't want to see them strive for some realism to the series. If it takes that route then in my opinion the franchise looses its charm and I'll have to walk away from it.

All of the information about this is kind of worrying me.
I like my SSX games as far away from reality as possible.

Agreed, when he jumped out the helicopter and It's Tricky didn't start playing I was dissapointed. That would have been a trailer.
Fan Edit Away!!!!

I love the light and colorful SSX games of the past. The vibe of this game seems much more Dark Summit than SSX. Not sure how I feel about that.

Damn, they trailed the game? I was still thinking about the chick talking about how much she liked sex.
Regardless, here's hoping this does the series justice and isn't just sold on the back of the series reputation.

Okay, cool, but where's the part where I get a fun, exhilarating, arcade-y snowboarding game? Because that's what made me enjoy the series despite not traditionally being a fan of sports games.

That trailer makes me want to punch everyone involved in making it squarely in the face.
Remember when SSX was a lighthearted downhill racer where you needed boost to get speed and tricks to get boost? Where the hell is that game in this pile of garbage? It's like they decided to do a game based on Extreme Ops.

THANK YOU. I totally agree. What's next Pac-Man Black Ops? Does every frigging game have to be dark and gritty these days. Oh yes, I forgot, it's all demographics. So yeah, SSX has to go all "Hard Core" now, or else it won't sell. Instead of tricks, let's have players snow board with axes. Huge Air + opponent decapitation: Press X+Y+X Right Trigger = B O R I N G

@Mach2 I just listened to two tracks off the Tricky soundtrack.
It brings back so many memories. Now I have to boot up Tricky and play again. Right now.
EA, what is wrong with you? Did you not ask a SINGLE SSX fan for input before making this trailer?

"Nothing is more bone-chilling than reality"? Do they not know that the thing that makes SSX awesome is that it's completely unrealistic and silly? I'm excited that there's finally another SSX game coming, but I'm hoping that they're not planning on being too deadly serious and gritty.

Oh, if you don't want realism, it looks like they have you covered. Hind-D drops at altitudes that helicopters probably can't reach. And you're competing with other boarders riding in their attack choppers too. Remote mountains already lit up. And don't forget your Batman flight-cape.
The should call it SSX: Rad Ops

No.
SSX needs less real and more Rahzel.
Look at the series so far. SSX Tricky is the model for what to do, not Kane and Lynch.

Obviously it won't be realistic. Did you see the same trailer I did? It won't be as far fetched as Tricky, sure, but its definitely not a snowboarder sim.
And come on how does that not look fun? You're shown one event that takes place at night so automatically the whole game is dark and gritty, of course. No one else notice the flying-squirrel suit at the end and think of all the possibilities that could offer? So it won't be identical to Tricky or any of the other SSX games, but why can't a fresh approach be fun?
