Humble Indie Bundle 2 revealed, name your price for Braid, Machinarium and more
67
Looks like the organizers of the second annual Humble Indie Bundle are busting out the big guns for this year's charity drive -- the name-your-own-price, DRM-free package includes Jonathan Blow's time-twisting platformer Braid, the infinitely charming adventure game Machinarium, the side-scrolling shooter Cortex Command, the super soothing (and equally pretty) Osmos and the tower defense-meets-RTS gem Revenge of the Titans. That's a whole lot of bang for your buck, or nickel, or thousand bucks.
This year, purchasers can choose how much of their donation goes to four possible recipients: The games' developers, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Child's Play Charity or the Humble Indie Bundle organizers. Yes, you can not only customize how much altruism you're going to exhibit with your purchase, you can also customize where that altruism goes! Unless, of course, you pirate it, sending out no altruism to nowhere. You monster.

Damn I just brought Braid on the Xbox 360. MS should do deals like that.

I just bought it too, that's not going to stop me though.
Like with the first one, I literally just bought World of Goo on WiiWare. The other games will make it worth it.

Any word on steam activation like bundle #1?

@hizz Steam activation didn't happen until nearly a year (or more?) after the first bundle had been released. I wouldn't hold your breath.

first thing i thought as well. in fact i paid $5 for the first one and never even installed it, until the steam activation thing last week mind you.
just paid for the new one, and probably wont install it unless it is added to steam as well. i have so many games to play i'll likely forget about these before i have a chance to play it.

@AndrewLGP Oh, I missed Denbowski's post. Still I'm sure they won't even do it unless all the games are available on Steam. They would probably do it the same way as the first one and either way you can create a non-steam game shortcut in Steam for them.

Those two games aren't even finished yet. They're both following the Minecraft model, pay now and get every version up to the free release.
On that note, does anyone know if we'll get updates/full release versions if we bought the game in the bundle?

From the site's main page: "Please note, Cortex Command and Revenge of the Titans are still under active development. You are eligible for all future updates!"

Considering you can spend even a paltry amount, such as $5, the pirating issue is disgusting. There might be some sliver of people who do such things because they hate DRM, etc... but considering both of these bundles were DRM-free, this is yet another example that shows most people who pirate just don't want to pay shit for anything.

I totally agree with you. The reasons that I've heard people who pirate say is that they didn't have enough money or that they they were "fighting" against DRM. This bundle eliminates both of those because you can pay whatever you want and no DRM. The only other reason I've heard is from kids who don't have an intangible form of currency (e.g. credit cards, debit cards etc.). Just have your parents buy it for you if you want it. It just proves that some people are idiots and have no respect for developers. Trust me, I know how hard it is to make a game because I tried. I even have a friend who just made a simple iPhone game. And that was pirated as well. Some of these people just make me sick. That's all I have to say.

no. to be honest, i pirate the occasional anime (if you count watching online as pirating, which it sort of is) because it's so obscenely expensive to get on DVD for something i'm gonna watch once. but i would never pirate this bundle. if i get it, i'll give at least $10.

Braid alone makes this worth spending money on. Was any sort of level creation tool ever released for it? I thought I read there'd be one

played all these and love them, except for cortex command. can anyone tell me if they thought the game was any good? i'll have to check it out, but i know virtually nothing about it as is. the info on the site does make it sound pretty intriguing...

I briefly played the free version a while back and was pretty impressed by some of the mechanics. It's basically a side-scrolling RTS--sort of a real-time Worms feel, but with some resource management. The feature set is a little daunting at first, so it felt rather clunky to me, but I guess now I'll see how it plays long-term.

@Chazzr Why are you asking? Go to the site. Each game icon is a link to the game's website. Poke around. Give some money to Charity at least and then try the games out for yourself anyway. Machinarium especially is an excellent title, easily the best-looking of its year,

I already have 3/5 of the games. Still buying it though. REALLY hoping for Steam integration...
The trailer is pretty great. I'm not sure how they were able to afford Schwarzenegger and Connery and... others.

What I'm wondering is how much all these games are sold for separately, so that I can add it up, knock off maybe ten dollars or so to give myself a deal, and buy the whole thing.
