Minecraft enters beta, nears 850K units sold

Indie game sensation Minecraft has now entered ... beta. Consequently, the "pre-purchase" price has been raised from €9.95 to €14.95 ($19 and change). Once completed and "released," Minecraft will retail for €20 and -- if history is any indication -- will go on sale through Steam the following week for $5 (okay, maybe it'll be a month later).

This past weekend, in the last stretch of its alpha phase, Minecraft surpassed 800,000 unit sales, and the game is approaching 850K as you read this. At this rate, it could easily surpass the million-sold mark before Persson and company craft a gold master.

The beta has made multilayer unplayable for my girlfriend and I, who play on our own local server. Kinda bummed about it, but based on Notch it'll be fixed within the next couple of days.

@SuiXide Same here! Me and my boyfriend cant play on our server either.

Server-side inventory, which also fixed a load of problems. When you hover over an item in your inventory, a little box shows up next to your cursor telling you what it is. There's a few others I can't remember. Check Notch's blog, it's all there.

Unfortunately it's added a huge amount of problems. At the moment i find it's unplayable :(

He managed to screw this up so bad. he really needs to test this stuff before just throwing updates out.

@DustbinK Yeah i get the fact this IS beta. But still. Some of these bugs are so large, him just starting the game up once before throwing out updates should make them evident.

Bug testing goes a lot faster when there are 850,000 people testing it. I don't mind it one bit.

Guess I will have to go outside and chop down real trees....Minecraft is broken.....

Its not that serious...have some tea...take some magnesium tablets...dare I say play a different game...its been out for a whole half-day so far.

I love minecraft. Haven't played with my friends again yet, but hoping we'll be able to do it.

I just bought this a couple days ago, I can't believe I held out so long. It's a great game, interesting and unique experience.

You know what....I did the same thing just yesterday..didn't even know about the beta thing. Was wondering why there was so much press on it (everywhere)...saw that it was 10 bucks (give or take) and decided to just see what the fuss was about instead of wondering.

Was pleasantly surprised without a doubt...its one of those games that hides so much more behind it. And has a extreme amount of potential, if done right...it could be the next Diablo with benefits.
