LOL, fair enough. I couldn't give 2 shits about being voted up...I'm just glad we might get these good ass games on the PSN. Even more reason for me to get a PSP now.

Also, KOTAKU lol

Oh HELL YES. Vagrant Story is in my top 5 favorite RPG's for the PS1 (perhaps EVER). I played it just a few months ago and the graphical style, gameplay, and story all hold up surprisingly well.

Damn shame we never got a sequel.

So explain the goodness of Vagrant Story to me please. I remember playing it back in the day for a few hours (I admit I didn't give it enough time to develop the story), but the gameplay mechanic where I could spend tons of time customizing my weapon only to face the poential of it permanently & irreparably breaking really turned me off.

Yeah I bought it on PSN played it an hour or two but from what I could see the combat system was horrific.
Correct me if I'm wrong guys as I do love RPGs.

Actually your weapons don't break. Perhaps you should revisit the game. Your weapons lose durability points the more you use them, making them less effective but they don't break. However you also gain PP points the more you use it. I'm pretty sure the more PP you have the more chances of critical strikes. You can repair your weapons at the many shops around Lea monde but you lose all PP points. The story music and gameplay are what made vagrant story. Some ingenuity and you can craft weapons that will slay anything.
My only complaint with the game was inventory space. You have all these great weapons and armor and can only carry like five. It was difficult to plan for contingencies.

But to sum up you can walk around lea monde with all weapons and armor at 0 durability and your weapons will always exist just being less effective. I'm like you, I hate when I play a game and my weapons disappear. Closest thing I've played to combat and equipment system is demon souls.

Thanks. I'll check it out again. What game was I thinking of then? Was Dark Cloud (or its sequel) the one w/ weapons that permanently break?

I'm not sure but many games have that sort of thing. I'm okay when the weapons decrease in effectiveness but right out breaking just sucks.

Yep, you are indeed thinking of Dark Cloud (PS2 game though). It did have weapons that could break permanently, besides the starter dagger. That was the general style of the game though. If you didn't keep your thirst meter up, you'll die, if you don't take good care of your weapons, you'll lose them.

Legend of Mana was great, but somewhat flawed... I mean, yeah, it was a new Mana game, but it wound up just so wildly different. What I'm referring to here would be the "battles start suddenly" thing, the absence of the ring menu, magic being VERY different and almost completely optional, the different storylines... really, think of all the ways that Seiken 3 was different from Secret of Mana. I'm not saying that these changes were bad, per se (except the magic thing-- I really liked SOM's magic system, honestly, and the instrument thing from LOM just didn't really work all that well), but they could certainly have been smoothed over better. Maybe if NA had Seiken 3 back in the day, the changes would have seemed more evolutionary than whole-cloth reinvention, but we may never know.

Unless you all buy it this time and it somehow convinces S-E to do a remake of Seiken 3. Which you should, and they should.

@John Z Legend of Mana really required a 2nd person to make the game fun. If you played it by yourself, it became quite tedious.

Don't downvote, but someone please tell me what is sooo great about Xenogears:
I remember playing it some 10 years back, enjoyed the game all the way to the final disc, then felt like the programmers ran out of money. Whole scenes at the end were told to me in text format. Ending felt rushed and poorly planned. Put a sour taste in my mouth and ruined the game for me.
If someone has a different perspective on this as to why the last disc was acceptable, I'm all ears.

@ChillyWilly Uhm actually I'm pretty sure they DID run out of money and had to rush the second disc.

But I might be wrong on that.

@ChillyWilly Money was pulled late into the games development for other, more high-profile games. The team eventually left and that is why Xenosaga was developed outside of Squaresoft (now Square Enix).

That said I just got done playing it again and it's still very worth picking up and diving into again.

They ran out of time I think. Xenogears was planned as a series which got bastardized somehow by Square, then a different company was formed(but with a good number of the same people) and they made the Xenosaga games.

I think they ran out of money and time and it had something to do with the fact that Xenogears was planned as a franchise by the developers but Square didn't want it to compete with FF and so the game got bastardized somehow and a new company was formed which put out the Xenosaga games.
