Doesn anyone know what "but Sony hasn't yet allowed it" means? Why would Sony be blocking the translation?

Supposedly Sony blocks console games with a lot of japanese voice over if the company refuses to add an english voice over track, but if this is a PSP version I dont see the purpose.

Presumably this wont be playable unless you have CFW. I guess this is Joystiq's new direction for the newyear? Advocating piracy?

@Draco84 Sony blocked a release back in the 90s because it wasn't "3D enough" and had too much Japanese. Atlus had several MegaTen games ready for English releases and couldn't get them authorized.

While not *perfectly* congruent to the situation, the quote at the end of 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' springs to mind: "Perhaps on the rare occasion pursuing the right course demands an act of piracy, piracy itself can be the right course?"

Long live the gamer!

Earlier this week I came across a fan translation of Hideo Kojima's Policenauts for the PSP (running through the PS1 emulator). Never played it before but it shall be interesting ^_^ Same can be said of this game too. You either give the cake to the fans, or they'll make it and eat it anyway ;)

Played through it on the PSP. Brilliant on the go! Working on Snatcher now... almost... Well, it's in the queue.

normally i would just think these "hackers" are morons for wasting so much time, but i personally know a Persona fan and its no joke, they are NUTS for anything Persona. He's spent hours upon hours on P3 and 4.

To be fair, a single playthrough of either of those games is 60 to 80 hours. They're long RPGs, but because of the way the timeframe progresses in a linear fashion, they're able to develop a much more engrossing and cohesive story than say, Fallout 3 (Not bashing Fallout, just pointing out differences). I've found that people who like a meaty story tend to love the unique personality of the Persona series.

....says the guy with the Persona 3 avatar.

Persona isn't eve the best of the SMT series either. I'd say the main series or DDS would be.

....And now that it's getting some attention, I'm sure someone will get around to crushing it soon. Like all the other fanslations I look forward to.

It means that a cease and desist letter is on it´s way.
Another demonstration of how easy companies con get crazy with their "piracy is everything bad that happens" syndrome.

This kind of games are never EVER released outside of japan, if you can´t speak Japanese then you can´t play them, why is this piracy??? they DON¨T want this game outside japan then they are not losing anything, because they only wanted japans money. But when this translations appear they get mad with "piracy syndrome" and the worst is that not only they stop the translation but they don´t release the game even though people want it. In this cases you know what?? i hope they release the translation and i hope that game is pirate-storm from here to the moon. That´s the last thing a company deserves when they don´t want to make money just because they think their game is only good for a certain part of the world, even though the rest of the world wants it.

It's piracy because they don't feel there are enough people that will buy it to justify the price of making it for an english speaking audience. In many cases they're right, the 2000 or so purchases they stand to make would never pay for the work they have to do editing and marketing or even shipping the product, at that point they might as well give it away for free... and while it's a fun idea for the consumer the company would never dream of something so ridiculous.

Well i have seen a lot, a LOT of garbage on the nds already. If those games can sell then i don´t see any reason why this one can´t. So at the end is just an excuse, because if "riding your pony part 3,455" can sell then this one can.....but no, they rather do it the hard way, fine.... let´s do it like that.

No one is really not "allowing" it to happen. The PSP game is just an emulation of the Saturn game, so officially translating it would require hacking the Saturn ROM since the source code is MIA.
