Rumor: GameStop to distribute Celebi for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver

There are already plenty of upcoming opportunities for you to go to stores and download new Pokemon for HeartGold, SoulSilver, Diamond and Pearl. According to reports claimed to originate from GameStop employees with access to the promotional materials for those events, there is still one more that has yet to be announced. In the underworld of retail Pokemon data distribution events, news travels fast.

According to the reports, GameStop will offer Celebi downloads from February 27 through March 7. This is noteworthy enough, as Celebi is exceptionally rare, but this particular Celebi activates a time-travel event when encountered in HeartGold and SoulSilver, which can't be accessed any other way. Having this Celebi and transferring it into the upcoming Pokemon Black or White will also allow you to get a Zorua, one of the new Pokemon in that game.

So, in conclusion, we just wrote a whole bunch about a Pokemon distribution event that hasn't been announced. Didn't expect to do that today.

I have 1 of those. Any event legendary you may have 2 of. I only have a Jirachi and Deoxys. i always miss these events and kick myself afterwards when i find out.

@Jack Kevorkian You can get Deoxys by buying Ranger Guardian Signs, downloading the special mission, and playing with a friend. I have the game, but don't have a friend to complete the mission.

I have always had a quiet pride of never cheating or trading with those using gameshark I felt like trading with them was the equivalent of getting an STD on the game.

The Pokemon data is already in the cartridge. The special downloadable events merely unlock the Pokemon or the event required to obtain it. It doesn't actually download the Pokemon into the game, it just makes it available to get.

I really wish they would just let me download these from the comfort of my home, instead of going to Gamestop for 4 separate Pokemon. Three this month then another at the end of February...

@Echoo I choose one on my way home and dl it in the parking lot. Not too bad.

And if I read the promo pad they had out correctly, you can only retrieve 1 pokemon per game.

@laxic Arc was a Platinum event. When traded to HG/SS it unlocked your choice of level 1 4th gen legends. Pretty awesome being able to train the end of time dragons.

@superfrick Ridiculous. It's sent out over wifi. Take down the managers name and seriously call up corporate and report him. Nintendo won't stand for that. Gamestop shouldn't, but they suck,so they probably will.

@laxic The Mall gamestop is only turning distribution on/off when someone makes a preorder. There's another Gamestop in a strip mall that was also telling me I had to preorder, but that one had big glass windows and I was able to download from outside :)

I didn't preorder from Gamestop, because that would just be encouraging them.

@superfrick Unless they're being complete jerks about it, the download is usually constantly active. You shouldn't even need to speak to a clerk.

@Pyron They probably do have the ability to turn it off though. I'd relish the chance to turn them in. But it isn't my town and I'm not generally a snitch. I'd talk to the manager though and attempt to extort him as hush money. I'd take a free retail game.

@superfrick I would report them. Or, something oddly enough I've had success with is tweeting at the corporation. That is not the case with the Pokemon events- I've done these sorts of things before at GS and never have been told I "need" to pre-order something there to get free DLC via Nintendo.

you morons. you ever heard of something called fine print. it says its their system its their rules. I don't even know what Nintendo would do besides hang up the phone. Now you want to rat on a manager because hes promoting sales, of Pokemon non the less. Why not just reserve? does it feel like its giving money to the devil? then don't but its their rules.

Well crap, it just sucks to be a Pokemon fan that doesn't live in the US or Japan, even with Wi-Fi you never get the event Pokemon you NEED to get things in-game.

@Xpike I'm very sorry. Reminds me of the days when getting Mew was a near impossibility for most in Red/Blue because of where they offered link trades for it.:(

The ones you got from peeling off that sticker? Yeah I remember when I was 9 and taking my entire family, out of the 6 sticker cards we got, I got 1 mew. Then I bought myself a Gameboy Color Save Backup Cartridge and duplicated my Mew save and traded them at the Toys R Us Pokemon League for 20$ each, or for rare holographics. I ripped so many people off, good times.

if you look long enough online you can find the distribution cart, it has been available for a couple weeks now.

Physical events are a nice idea, but if you miss one it's horrific. I wish they would just keep these event pokemon on the cart and be available as you play.

I would even prefer it if they did the DQ9 approach and relese an unlock for locked content on the cart. You don't miss those because once they're released they're available for all to download whenever they want. Except the damn 4 bosses. I missed one which had zero advertising other than their facebook. I don't go to facebook for gaming news.

It isn't rumor. It's true. On the new promo carts (leaked onto the internet), there is data to give out the three shiny dogs and then Celebi on those dates. Took Nintendo forever to officially release Celebi over here, though.

Isn't this Celebi's first official appearance in the west? I remember playing Pokemon Silver as a kid and wishing I could get one.

Scratch that off the bucket list.
