Thankfully, somebody's gone through the trouble of creating better wrestling role models in WWE: Smackdown vs Raw 2011 -- specifically, several Street Fighter characters available for download through the in-game content browser. Think about it: is there a better person for all of the children of the world to look up to than a hobo whose sole pursuit in life is to beat up everyone on the planet? Total role model material.
Street Fighter characters recreated in Smackdown vs. Raw 2011

Although the spectacle of wrestling isn't lost on us, this new class of wrestlers lacks the core values and strengths we've come to expect while growing up and watching the sport. Where is the guy telling us to take our vitamins?

I remember the first one on PSone.. and this looks awkward like it did back then, the way they toggle opponent & only seem aware of the targeted opponent, apart from graphically, it hasn't really progressed 'mechanically'

I doubt anyone would disagree with you there. Problem is that there's next to no competition in the wrestling "genre" and I'd have to guess that a good majority of WWE fans just aren't that discerning of the core gameplay, so long as there's some new features and an updated roster each year.
All of that sadly equates to little need for improvement.

Is this really news? My old college roommate used to recreate Street Fighter, Mario, and other characters using the create a wrestler mode in various wrestling games for Gamecube. And then he would play the SF/Mario/etc. music on the stereo while playing wrestling matches. It was kind of ridiculous when I watched him, but in hindsight, he probably made the game from a 5.0 to a 9.0 with great music, and an awesome roster of characters. It was kind of interesting seeing Charlie Nash vs Mario vs Bowser vs Cloud Strife in a ring.

This game has more complex and detailed character creation than anything I have ever played (almost every physical feature you could possibly want, every aspect of a character's movelist, customizable finishing moves, theme music), and even lets you design your own storylines with branching paths. With enough effort, you can literally make your own wrestling-themed adventure game, using only your original characters.
Even despite my lack of interest in professional wrestling and thinking the gameplay itself is mediocre, I honestly love this game. It's like The Sims, except the lives of my virtual people revolve around beating each other up.

@Prboi One of the unfortunate design decisions of SvR 2011 is that men and women can't fight together except in indergender tag-team matches. So you can design Chun Li, Cammy, or whoever, but can't have them appear in any other types of matches that include male wrestlers.

This appalls me. There is no news on here about the SVR games until a more popular game is emulated in one? Sickening. There are TONS of fans of these games and we don't get represented on these websites at all but yet we have to sift through call of doody this and craplo reaching for me money from your pockets? It just annoys me. Also, this was done on the 360 version so it shouldn't really be tagged PS3 should it? The SVR games are on PSP and Wii too but you didn't tag those now did you?

Well, they've got more character than most of wwe's roster nowadays, so I can certainly see the appeal.

I still say that the WWE Smackdown vs RAW games have some of the greatest online features that people don't know about. The game itself on line is trash due to known glitches and exploits that return every year, but the ability to download fully fleshed-out characters, logos, signs, and movesets makes the game.
There's just something more interesting with being able to play as the Red Son Superman over John Cena. It's a shame that the gameplay is so convoluted that new gamers might shy away from it.

This alone will end up making me get SDvsR 11 and actually PLAY IT!!! I sometimes get every other year or so and will just play if Stone Cold is in it, but it doesn't last long since he can never be used in the story mode and I'll just let me daughter play it since she's into wrestling as I'm not anymore. This though will change all that!!! Can't wait and hopefully they're still up by the time I can get it...
