Broken characters you say? You go on to say this game isn't pringles, then complain about a broken character?

I wonder... did you even play MvC2?

@Tizlor Hey man, Servbot and Sentinel were both extremely well balanced characters. Not broken in any way.

@Tizlor I was just thinking the same thing.

I agree with some of the arguments about it being slower. That's cool, I don't mind it being slower (I thoroughly enjoyed TvC). But to say MvC2 is balanced? haha.

I totally agree. You make the reference to the MAHVEL BAYBEE video but you realize that was a video of infinite combos. MvC2 isn't balanced for shit, it has way too many characters to be. Ask Capcom and they'll tell you the same thing. The fun of MvC is playing all these ridiculous characters, then because the community likes it so much they'll impose a metagame on top of it if they want.

Agreed. I love Hinkle on the fancast and respect his knowledge of games, but to say that MvC2 has no overpowered characters is incorrect. Pretty much every top MvC2 player uses some combination of the same 6 or so characters, and Storm and Sentinel are in just about every team.

Of course I played MvC2 and, like I said in the preview, there are strong characters, but they're not invincible in MvC2. Top tier people use the same six characters, Thiago123 says, and he's right -- but that's six different, great characters. I found Chris, Arthur and Wesker is the nigh-unbeatable team in this preview build, with Arthur's crazy keep-away game, Chris' great support role (his Uzi is a great ranged attack that compliments Arthur well) and Wesker can just turtle up and punish, punish, punish. It's broken.

Right, and really, none of these comments are in fact about your experience with 3 anyway. I can only speak for myself, but I certainly haven't played 3 yet, much less a build this close to release. If you are correct about the characters, I hope it get balanced in time for release, at least for the validity of the online play...especially after the expertly balanced SSF4. If not, I hope that the ranking system and size of the population can mitigate the problems with playing the same teams over and over. On another note, I'm actually happy that the game is slower since my air combos in 2 were so sloppy...and can't wait to try it out myself.

@Thiago123 I have to agree with the comments so far. MvC2 was incredibly unbalanced (the majority of the cast was unusable and the top tier had ridiculous infinite combos).

In addition, I find that balance complaints from before a game comes out to be worthless. Just because Arthur has some zoning skills and you didn't know how to beat them doesn't mean he's invincible. Before Super SF4 came out, everyone though Dudley would be invincible, and boy were they wrong. Before Soul Calibur 4 came out, everyone thought Hilde was worthless, but it turns out she has game-breaking combos.

Judging the balance of a fighter with a large roster outside of a truly open and competitive environment is impossible. Arthur or any other character probably has properties you don't know about. Maybe he has way less health or his assists are bad. Maybe you're not using air dashes and advancing guards correctly?

@Tizlor My thoughts exactly. My friends and I had to put a ban on the use of Cable among other characters.

Plus judging by the video's this reviewer doesn't seem that great at video games, just keeps trying the EXACT same things over and over again. Speaking of which, what was it that Einstein said..."Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."?

No, it's not broken you just don't have an understanding of the game to figure out a way around it. Yet.

Instead of complaining about it, use your/or a review copy and go into the lab for a while. It takes patience and tons of time to get even marginal at fighting games.

@Others
I also enjoyed the personal attacks, keep the hate/discussion going gents.

I dont' know saying they are broken without a few months of community tested tactics is to early. Just looking at the game It would be strange if a beam rifle type attacks wouldn't crush the assist characters trish settings up traps for assist characters, storms raising wind attack wouldn't block arthurs attacks then wave in, hulk or wesker, and last magneto's beam attack ??????? I could pick that tactic apart and i don't have the game.

@Tizlor : I agree. Sometimes I wonder if some of these people have played video games more than 5 years of their life.

There are PUH-LENTY of over-powered and/or unbalanced characters in MVC2. There are plenty of fireball-spammers in MVC2 as well. Cyclops, Mega-Man, Ice-Man, and Iron-Man just for starters all can spam just as well as Arthur can in this clip if not WORSE.

Whether its just shooting quick mega-buster blasts with Mega-Man, or with quick plasma blasts with Cyclops. Or you have attacks that reach across the screen with Iron-Man going "UNI-BEAM, UNI-BEAM, UNI-BEAM" or same with Ice-Man and substitute "Ice" for "Uni".

The whole fun with games like this is to find characters that neutralize each other. It's not always a good thing to have a perfectly-balanced fighting game. If you are gonna do that then you have the put the majority of development into the game engine itself to make it as deep as possible. Such is that case with most NAMCO fighting games IMO.

I've found that when it comes to fighting games all to often the characters that seem weak and useless at the beginning wind up becoming the more useful and dangerous characters later on. Likewise, the characters that seem invincible at the beginning, you eventually find defenses against those flashy attacks and that character does not seem as intimidating as they did before.

@TehAsher Are you really that fickle minded? This guy doesn't have a fat clue on what he is talking about. MvC2 is one of (if not) the most un-balanced 2D fighters ever. To say otherwise and try to defend it makes any respect or credibility you had on the topic non-existing. As someone said below, David does has not had enough time with the game and each character to make such a bold and absolute statement...and really comes off as one who holds a scrub mentality when it comes to fighters. "I don't know how to get around a projectile spam, so that tactic\character combination must be invincible" pfffft...man-up and get better.

I hope those changed you mention are implemented, though because this is a fresh reiteration it almost reminds me of how xmen vs. street fighter was. Thankfully even if they were to release this as is (which they won't, capcom seems to have a track record of good testing when it comes to their fighting games and taking in that feedback), I'm certain there will be patches for years to come (and not ones we'd have to buy). Thankfully the digital age allows for this.

Team One: Captain America, Dante, Chris Redfield.
Team Two: Dante, Iron Man, Deadpool.

I should also note that I am probably the worst person to even play these games and that I suck terribly so at them. Street Fighter, Tekken, MVC, I'm horrible at them all. But I'm attracted to this game. I have to have it.

This is upsetting, I thought this game was going to be better than 2. I play a lot of SSFIV. I never really liked MvC2 because it felt so chaotic. But older versions of SF were also very chaotic feeling. The engine used in IV is slower and more fun in my opinion. I am really hoping the slowdown feels right in MvC3, but the lack of cooldowns after whiffing is not a good thing.

@AceManUSC So not being able to punish a whiffed super is a bad thing? You should almost always be able to punish a blocked super. I mean in MvC2 Cable can punish almost anything that whiffs or is blocked with an AHVB, and it'd be from the same distance that the author is saying Wesker can punish Storm's super. The massive cooldown on supers is why you learn to hit confirm into supers from a preexisting combo that can be super canceled.

So is that the final roster? If so then it's pretty weak IMO. Sure there's some good characters in it, but they're missing like a whole bunch of others that SHOULD be in it as well. Like the person above, I would have much rather have Ken, Gambit, Akuma, Cyclops, Venom, Rogue, Sabertooth, and others that I just can't think of off the top of my head at this moment.

It looks like there's room for more and I'm so hoping they plan to use that room to put in more characters between now and when the game launches or some kind of guarantee that there will be a whole lot more than just the one DLC character announced so far?

The Capcom 3 parts were spot on, and well appreciated, but the Capcom 2 observations really feel off.

No invincible characters? God Tier in Capcom 2 was arguably the best God Tier of ANY fighting game ever made. Mag/Sent/Storm/Doom (and Cable/Spiral) were absolutely broken. The vast majority of all teams were those characters.

Now if just Wesker and Arthur are broken, that's much better than Capcom 2's balance. Plus it seems like Wesker is a good counter to Arthur, if he can teleport around his projectiles. People said Ice Man was the "chip/keepaway king" on Capcom 2, but he was easily countered.

Wait, so the game is slower yet MORE frantic? From the video it looked a lot more deliberately paced than MvC2 which is good to me. That game was insane. I'm hoping it's more in line with SFIV but more flashy and spastic.

Also, Arthur didn't look to spammy with projectiles. It looked like anyone could just jump over and get in close and punish him but that the other player wasn't. *shrugs*
