Dragon Age 2 first DLC named 'The Exiled Prince,' teased in video
78
As of right now, you've got four days until pre-orders for Dragon Age 2 shrivel and return to their normal state; as previously noted, the "Signature Edition" of DA2 only exists as a bonus for folks pre-ordering before January 12. And with that Signature Edition comes "The Exiled Prince," a free DLC quest and character (named Sebastian Vael) that both seem hinged on revenge.
If you decide to skip the Signature Edition, the DLC will become available for 560 MS Points ($7) at some point after DA2's release this March. Head past the break for the first teaser of The Exiled Prince.

Eh, it's not as bad as hiding future DLC content on the disk then unlocking a week after release.
Oh wait, yes it is.

It's easy to understand why and how when you look at it through the business standpoint.
Why: To combat used game sales, piracy, or to make the fact you pre-ordered it for the signature edition mean something.
How: They either take a portion of the game and make it DLC or create a add on story to the game and use it as leverage as DLC.
In the end I rather have things like this at least be their way to combat used games sales and so on instead of some form of individual code DRM. I mean while I like the Dragon Age franchise I just recently purchased the first one because of the Ultimate Edition. I'll do the same for Dragon Age come the end of the year. I know they are going to release a ton of DLC I'd rather get those things in one bang that's at least cost effective.

They're just following the Capcom model. Watch them use the good ol' "it was content we had to cut from the disc" release.

I love me some Bioware; but DLC announcements before a game is out still feels wrong
Posted: Jan 7th 2011 11:52AM klobbermang said
@Drew327 It's not really DLC in the traditional sense. It's a way to persuade people to buy the games new since you cant redeem the code on a used copy.

Corporations are not non-profit organizations. They require money to keep the lights on, pay developers, and produce top quality games. One method of generating capital is to maximize pre-orders. They will take steps to provide incentive for new purchases to avoid losing revenue to Gamestop for those that choose to buy their games used. They may choose to do this by taking away content from those who buy used. None of this should shock anyone.

1. Bioware will make boatloads of cash regardless because people think their games are like the second coming.
2. Used sales aren't the devil.

So why would the corporation feel compelled to add extra stuff to the game for free, if they're already content that they've done enough to sell a boatload and get critical acclaim? Just to be nice guys and throw money at the wind?
And I'm surprised that you're not against used sales given your conviction against piracy. After all, don't they both remove direct sales from the publisher and developer? One's just more legal, is all.

Companies have been creating pre-order exclusive content before the whole DLC thing became big.
It's only now that their offering it to over people at a later date that people being to complain about it.

They did this with Dragon Age : Origins
But at least the price is cheaper this time.. (Seriously some people actually brought Shale's DLC for 1200MSP just for 2 Achievements)

Not exactly. Shale was included in the box regardless of whether or not you preordered. You just had to buy the game.
Giving away DLC as pre-order incentives is bullshit.

It's selling preorder incentives to people who buy the standard edition at or after launch. I don't see the big deal ... if you want it so badly, preorder the game.

So is this only if you preorder the game from EA/Bioware directly? Before the extra quest DLC was from if you bought the game new, not preorderderd it....

No you can pre-order anywhere. It's not just directly from Bioware. I pre-ordered mine from Amazon.

If you can wait. Personally, I probably spent somewhere around $150 on the game, the expansions, and all the add-on missions...and I still feel like I made out like a bandit!

I actually bought DA:O when it first came out (only for it to fall in price quite dramatically within 2 weeks) and the Ultimate edition because the total cost of the DLC and Awakening was actually higher than the Ultimate edition.
Yet I preordered this the second I could. I know I should have learned a lesson at one point, but playing it when it comes out...can't beat that (Mostly due to friends that want it and will talk about it constantly when it comes out.)

@baby sea tuna @ Richard Jae As much as i enjoy having a game on the release date i've learn that buying game at launch isn't really good for me, where i'm from games aren't cheap but i've to admit that playing a game on the release date it's pretty awesome.

DLC before a game launches. This is something I'm on the fence about. On one side, yeah, just put it in the freaking game. But on the other side I can see that they actually finish making a game at least a month before it comes out. So during that time maybe they worked on something really fast to add afterwards.
I'm working on a game, but I will not have anything like this. I have worked on it for 5 years and will work on it for decades more until it has every last bit of material I want. To see the game you can go to www.corsia.webs.com

There's a difference here though. They announced months and months ago that if you pre-ordered the game before January 11th you would get a special edition that included an exclusive DLC.
They haven't cut anything from the game or reduced the final experience for people. It was always intended from the start to be outside the main game. They've simply given the opportunity for people who didn't pre-order the game to experience the DLC if they wish too.

This is not stopping anyone that wanted the game from buying it or driving customers that would have been paying customers anyway away. This is just giving the people that only buy used, as a rule, and would not have per-ordered or bought new anyway, something to complain about. If a pre-order bonus drives you away from pre-ordering or paying for a game, you are doing it wrong.

Don't f-ing tell us about DLCs before the game is even out. All this tells us is that while you could have put this in the game but chose not to because you are little money grubbers. I will NEVER buy DLCs that come out with a game on release day.
