YouTube user Demize2010 has been busy since the Kinect's release -- though some have managed to squeeze motion controls into one older title, this crafty modder has Kinectified three. Check out the videos after the jump to see his take on Modern Warfare, Doom and Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Its too bad that as much as microsoft wants to get rid of the conroller, kinect will need a controller for truly core games.

@US 447 Microsoft never intended for people to play fps's on kinect that's why it's not failing like move.

@Faenix lol look at move's strategy man trying to make fighting games and FPS with motion sensing. Nobody wants to moev around to play Shooters that stupid people get tired. Kinect has none of that because its meant for the casual crowd which is what the wii did. Compared to kinect Move sucks.

Ideally the controls should let you customise motions for certain actions, e.g. jumping, running. But wow, I've dreamed of controls like this ever since the Nintendo Power Glove lied to us through false advertising!
Playing the current gen Fallouts by bringing your wrist up to access the Pip-boy, scaling buildings and parrying sword strikes in Assassins' Creed, doing hadoukens in Street Fighter... the possibilities are endless.

At some point in time to advance some games for kinect there is going to have to be some form of physical medium. Some sort of controller that can help you control your movement in the games just beyond waving arms and legs.

Remember the first forays into Virtual Reality in the early 90s? With VR helmets and treadmills to simulate movement? They were very underwhelming even back then, but the blueprint was somewhat set for today's technology.
The biggest challenge, I agree with you, will be with directional, walking movement and taking that away from controller inputs. How will they do it? Walking on the spot is awkward, and all alternatives such as actually moving forwards or backwards or strafing side to side will eventually result in there not being enough room for a home console scheme.
Maybe they could bring back the treadmill and make it 8-directional?

I remember seeing one where the guy was in a big sphere that rotated where he walked so that he stayed in the same place. Problem would be that it would always feel like an incline, but I suppose that's good exercise?

If only there was a company that used a camera in conunctin with a controller for motion gaming. Man, that seems like such a good idea you'd figure someone would have come up with it by now. It'd be like taking the best things from Kinect and the Wii and combining them together.

I would imagine you could just use a watergun as a solid medium.
That is if Microsoft didn't overkill their Natal..er Kinect advertisement (the one with a kid scanning his skateboard).

Half of his movements are leaning which can be done while holding a regular controler. Or... Micorsoft could make a controler that looks just like the current one but when you twist it and seperate it, you can have one half in each hand. That way, you could play the game with a standard controler or buy the new one and have something special to use with kinect.

What this guy has achieved by himself is pretty amazing but MS will have to get a lot more creative if they look to move into the hardcore space. The beauty of the kinect is no controller, they wouldn't want to have to change the kinect slogan to "You are the controller, and your controller is also the controller." not quite as catchy...

Hacks are great for one off experiments but as you could see the implementation was so rough it'd be unplayable over the course of an entire game. Sony needs the developers to adopt move controls as optional in their titles ... they don't need a bunch of college students making "hacks."
At the end of the day this demonstartion is basically a worse version of the move. Granted, it's on games that couldn't be played with Move but still this just underscores the fact that Move is better and was more thought out than Kinect.

People didn't really think it was very interesting to remap button presses to extraneous and slow reacting body movements when people where doing it with the Sega activator, the u-force, or the power glove so why is it that people are so supportive of it in this era?
Could it be because back then people actually had a wide variety of games to play (everything from Doom to Link to the Past, come to think of it) instead of millions of minigame collections and homogenized "hardcore games" that basically all just act as near exact duplicates of Call of Duty, Gears of War, and God of War, beating the exact same visuals and mechanics into our heads over and over and over again in a sort of KFC famous bowl like slop mound of gaming starch?

Now people need some sort of flashy peripheral or extra device to keep themselves interested in gaming, because we've gotten to the point where the only mechanics that exist are "shake something to finish a minigame" or "get locked in an arena with a rocket launcher and a helicopter (or if the game designers are feeling whimsical and impish, a grenade launcher and 2 helicopters)."
