@Faenix I dislike this practice also.

I don't mind it if it's like "Alan Wake" where it is free stuff buyers WILL be getting, but I dislike the announcement of more stuff that needs to be paid for.

It really undervalues the game for me, and just makes me want to wait 8 months for the special edition. $40 with a lot of DLC already added.

Alan Wake made me unsure. I just hate DLC talk before game is out.

Especially hated it in dragons age. talking about wardens keep or something but.. wait, you gotta bu y it first.

Then why the hell is it within the first 2 hours of the game? Really turned me off, and made me happy I only spent $40

8 months is a generous estimate for a GoTY edition to not only be out, but already be reduced to $40. Usually it's a year before they even come out and then another 6 months or so before the price gets reduced at all.

Thing is, all DLC is planned before the title is announced and groundwork is set before the title is finished. The actual work on the DLC however doesn't begin until the project is certified. It takes a long time for content that wasn't within the initial budget and time-frame set by the publisher to be developed, tested and sent in for submission.

No developer has enough pull to just up and say, "Ok we wanna put this in here, and the game is 90 percent complete content wise and we are half-way through the development cycle but lets hire on another 70 percent in staff to crank out some more content, integrate it into the existing code and test it all. Because we are already working 90 hours a week, not eating properly or sleeping and there is no way we could pull new content out of our ass on a project with an impossible deadline. Also we'll have to find some more testers, so ramp up hiring in QA."

New characters please. What's the point of a "reboot" if theirs more old characters than new.?

@Prboi Well it depends on how they do the reboot.

If they are trying to recreate the original story, but better... Then it might be mainly original characters.

If they are trying to make a different story all together then I assume any character is fair game.

And in the end, they can make it work however they want it to work. 1/3 old school, 1/3 newish, 1/3 brand new characters.

I personally have no issues if it's the original 12? characters.

seriously if they recolored Scorpion/subzero/reptile 26 times I would probably be happy. Quantity over quality baby.

I kid.

Actually make it so I can call upon the "Toasty" guy as much as I want. AND make an easter Egg of Dan Trachtenberg doing "Video Games" and I will be very happy.

well if you would have looked deeper in the screenshots. You would have noticed the DLC square on the character select screen. And really I hope they left it open for them to include more characters that are not included on the disc and so they wouldn't need a super mega ultra arcade 3d edition later. But the last time I played a mortal kombat game was when 4 came out in arcades.

No they did that with Armageddon and it failed in my opinion. Mortal Kombat as a franchise has a lot of characters. They churn them out like cookies but their has to be a limit for the game itself. Back to armageddon adding to many people just makes the game feel bland and added to the fact they added a kreate a fighter that made it even more bland to play the cast themselves.

Having a stable number of characters and a few DLC is fine. Remember you don't actually have to buy the DLC. It all revolves around choice. That key word choice.

This is the problem with Mortal Kombat. They reboot it, cut out all the bullshit, focus on developing a few characters, and it's awesome. Then, it all goes to their heads, they jam pack it with 100 more characters, a chess game, tetris, and some boring adventure game.

They don't need to announce more characters or even think about adding them. They just need to get the MK2 cast with maybe one or two of the memorable new additions like Quan Chi and just call it a day.

Welcome to this comment section where people don't realize that the development of dlc is a budgeted cost and that if it wasn't being sold later then it wouldn't have been made in the first place.

I wish they started calling DLC "Additional Content" instead, so people would start thinking that that is exactly what it is, ADDITIONAL, as in something you would not have gotten otherwise.

There seems to be a lot of uniformed people in the comments so I will try to help out. This game is a retelling of MK-UMK3 and is getting back to the roots of Mortal Kombat. They are going back to the 2D fighting plane and classic characters. Here is a list of the widely believed 26 character roster.
1 Scropion- confirmed
2 Sub-Zero- confirmed
3 Mileena- confirmed
4 Night Wolf- confirmed
5 Johnny Cage- confirmed
6 Jax- confirmed
7 Sonya- confirmed
8 Kung Lao- confirmed
9 Cyrax- confirmed
10 Kitana- confirmed
11 Sektor- confirmed
12 Ermac- confirmed
13 Reptile- confirmed
14 Jade- confirmed
15 Sindel- confirmed
16 Raiden- confirmed
17 Shang Tsung- loosely confirmed
18 Smoke- leaked
19 Kabal- leaked
20 Noob- leaked
21 Quan Chi- leaked
22 Stryker- leaked
23 Sheeva- no word but believed
24 Kano- no word but believed
25 Baraka- no word but believed
26 Liu Kang- no word but believed
They have also confirmed Goro as a unplayable boss character.
Shao Kahn has also been confirmed but no word if he will be playable or not.
God of War's Kratos has been confirmed as a PS3 exclusive character. Kratos will be DLC that ships with all PS3 copies of the game and will not take up one of the 26 character slot.
I hope that this has helped.

I have been following this game since it was announced and you are getting well over $60 worth of game. 26 plus characters each with at least 2 real fatalities, to costumes and their own completely unique moves and stances. A huge number of classic stages that look beautiful and many having their on stage fatalities. Numerous game mode including a story mode much like MK vs. DCU only over 3 times as long and in dept. The most in dept fighting engine ever in a Mortal Kombat and the ability to fit any bugs on the fly with out having to wait for a patch and an online mode with several modes of play for it as well.

That is more than any other Mortal Kombat game that you have paid for and they are giving you a choice to download extra content after the game is out. They are not leaving anything out of the game they are simply add content after release and continuing to support the game after launch. How can people complain about that? They have even stated that if you don't download the extra characters they are trying to make it where you can still fight against them online if some one else has downloaded them rather force you to download the new content to play online like some other games. If anyone chooses to not download the DLC then that is their choice but this is one time that the game industry is not nickle and diming us.
