FEAR 3 co-op trailer shows a slight imbalance
23
We foresee one major problem with the co-op mode for F.E.A.R. 3, previewed in the video below: One of the characters looks way more fun to play than the other. Who would you like to be: the standard, cover-based first-person shooter guy? Or the telekinetic, intangible ghost-killer?

Man I hate watching this ad with the old man rubbing his face against his clothes...
And I'd like to play as the telekinetic, intangible ghost-killer.

I cannot imagine how they can make these two characters evenhanded unless you limit the rate that ghosty uses special powers. This is the antidote to a fun gaming mechanic.
Here's hoping they come up with a more creative solution than "you ran out of ghost-juice".

You can only possess other soldiers for a certain amount of time. And you don't get slow-mo, whereas the Point Man does.

Pointman will be the one who can activate slow motion, but both players will receive the benefits.

True, but he can't trigger it. In the same way, Point Man can reap the benefits of Fettel's levitation/paralyzation powers

It looks like F.E.A.R is co-oping with Bioshock

you are right. bare hands being visible on-screen is an obvious Bioshock rip-off.

Looks good.
I'd rather play the campaign as the Point Man to be honest. For a more classic FEAR experience.
Then I'll mess around with Fettel afterwards.

Coming from someone who was once a die-hard FEAR fan... this game is looking more hokey and ridiculously bad with every single thing they put out for it.

It's because Monolith aren't developing it, WB grabbed a pretty crappy studio to do the work instead. Can't wait to see what Monolith ARE working on now.

LOL Joystiq I think you hit the nail on the head, who will want to play as the powerless run and gun meathead?

No, sorry the story in the first game was very good, particularly the pay off at the ending. Yes the second game's story was a bit weak but the ending was hardly the issue. Pregnant Alma at the climax was definitely creepy and was a nice twist. The only real problem with FEAR 2 was that the game play and level design and lack of improvement in the AI.
By the way, Rosemary baby? Unless you are referring to The Point Man as being Rosemary just doesn't stick.

Probably a silly question, but why are the graphics so horrible compared to FEAR 2, those NPC models are looking pretty rough, and some of those textures, bleh! I'm hoping that this is just an early pass.

Ah yes, another incredibly generic looking uninspired shooter, where can I preorder?

I remember when FEAR was about being fighting your way through a claustrophobic, atmospheric environment laden with dread and the crushing feeling of being alone.
Now, it's gonna be two 10-year-olds bickering and screaming "Mooooooommmmm!!! Timmy got to be the gH0sT guY last time it's MY turn!!! Mooooooomm!!"
