@xreadmore You cant say anything remotely negative about the PS3, not matter if its opinion or fact without being down voted to hell.

To quote Patton Oswalt, "We just made cancer free and airborn, we're science. We're all about could'a, not should'a." That pretty much sums up my feelings on the hacked PS3 and the subsequent posting of the keys.

Its amazing that they can't admit that its their game that is flawed, and blame it on the system.

This game was hacked since day 1.

Can people stop being thieves and stop thinking they have a right to steal games, music, movies, etc? That would make things a lot better for all of us. Thanks.

Funny how this game has always had these problems and they're now blaming the most recent hacks. Nice try guys now patch your game.

btw why is no one crying about all the hackers on XBL?

Activision has no incentive to patch PS3 version or any previous version of COD:BO. PS3 hack is just another excuse for Activision to say "no more support" for your previous games and go out and buy new one.

That said, I don't get all the hates toward flow or Geo. Both of them did good for us. If you want to hate anyone, give credits to Sony for making such a shoddy platform and hate all those people who can't play one game by its rules.

It will potentially help me. I was peeved when I lost OtherOS as I used it in conjunction with a network drive as a home theater system. I never planned to hack my PS3 nor do I want to pirate games for it.

However, if this hack turns out to be undetectable, being able to throw OtherOS back on the system will indeed help me.

Yes, a shoddy platform where things didn't get hacked instantly until these douchebags broke the system. You can't say it's a shoddy system when hacking has been relatively null on it since it launched whereas it's been around since the XBox launched and has become an almost accepted part of the XBL community. For God's sake, ilomilo has been out for like, a week, and some assbag has already hacked all the main levels so it says he completed them in an impossible 1 move. That's an XBLA game for crying out loud! THAT is the definition of shoddy. Learn what you're talking about before you let your lips flap.

@Icculus Hope that makes up for not being able to play any games on it anymore. Because they're all gonna get hacked instantly. CoD, Battlefield, Uncharted, Killzone. If it has online it's going to be broken.

For me personally yes it is worth it, but that's because I mostly play competitive online games on PC. Games like LBP and Portal 2 won't really suffer from this.

However, taking my personal preferences out of the equation, there are many ways to prevent such cheating using dedicated servers, server-side verification, server browser lists etc. Those games that are already out will likely be broken, but that's not to say that new games can't take this into account.

The PC has had this potential problem since, well forever. Yet I almost never have problems with hacking in my PC games. If I do, I just blacklist that server and never look back.

If companies like Valve can put something like Steam on the system, then other developers could put lightweight checks like that on the PS3 as well.

Security by obscurity is not a security. It's too bad that there are people who are not mature enough and misuse this information, but that's humanity for you. It's too bad, but Sony should make better products next time. You can say that this is the reason why you can't have nice things.

Maybe Geohotz wants to terminate the "Playstation" brand or something.
Cause this really does damage the PS3. At this point, its only MW2, but this might happen to other games on the PS3 too, because of what Geohotz did, to just show off or prove that he's good at something.

@kgoo867 Geohot's lawyer argued that the court in which Sony filed the suit doesn't have jurisdiction over the case. The judge agreed. I'd say the judge refusing Sony's request for a restraining order supports Geohot. While it may not say that it endorses the legality of his actions, it does say that Sony is grasping at straws.

Sony: "It's California jurisdiction because he posted something on Twitter/Youtube and Twitter/Youtube is based in California."

Judge: "Uh, no."

Haw.

Damn, I knew I should have traded in this game when I bought Black Ops... :(.

My oh my, how my view of the Call of Duty series has changed. I STILL remember when I thought the best WWII shooter was Medal of Honor. Then that fateful day happened when I played the first CoD in a PC Club.

Sadly I'm thinking Black Ops will be my last CoD :(. Then again, I said that about MW2...

Obviously the problem is that people are pussies. Why hack and cheat a game to begin with? How much enjoyment are you getting out of not playing the game fairly? If you do get enjoyment out of that, you have issues to begin with. When I play a game, I want to have fun and enjoy it the way it was meant to be enjoyed. I'll get ghosted for saying this, but forget Sony, forget GeoHot, I blame this all on the pussies who are afraid to practice and get better at the game by actually playing it the right way.

@ihaveascreenname Also, if you want to fight hacking, hire hackers on your security team to find all the vulnerabilities before the general public can. If GeoHot worked for Sony, he'd be making a steady paycheck, and they'd have a secure system. But that's beside the point.

Making a company HATE you by destroying their security isnt the best way to land a job there. Its very close to blackmail. Hire me or else. Ever hear of a resume? Portfolio? No? I guess all those "opposing force" guys just wanted airport security jobs.

@DeadInside Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer. Sure, GeoHot may not have been looking for a job with them, but if you have the best hackers patching up holes in your security, nobody else is going to be able to break in. That's why people who write viruses that cripple entire infrastructures usually end up working for the government or a private security firm. That's just business. You're always better off to have your biggest competitor working for you, rather than against you. Remove the competition, monopolize the market (where in this case, the market is your console's security.)

Too bad they decided to not allow dedicated servers to avoid hacked servers, so much for that plan. At least server operators could ban people who cheat.

Not that I'm boohoo-ing about dedicated servers, it's funny to see their reasoning for excluding them go up in smoke though.

I'm off to sell my MW2 asap.

Sony have been very slack in securing their system:
- in not using a team that understands how to generate encryption keys properly,
- not keeping the community on their side; removing Linux, not releasing an XNA-style free dev kit for Minis, and charging for little custom avatars graphics,

This latest console boom seems to have been defined by online play and achievements/trophies - but it seems that PS3 may be losing both of these advantages.

I guess I won't buy it now.

Infact screw it I'll just stick to PC gaming.

I actually support jailbreaking when it comes to the iPhone, however i dont do that anymore. It does not affect anyone else. This douschebag GeoHots should ha thought about how this could potentially ruin the game for everyone. Just because you can does not mean you should. I hope Sony sticks it so far up his ass his grandchildren feel it tickle their throats.

You can't possibly believe the lie that this was done to develop software on the Cell processor, right?
You are just being a fanboy of a Hacker that is more interested in harming millions to help a few people with questionable intention, right?
IBM went to great expense to promote and facilitate workshops for devs interested in creating applications for the cell processor. For the first several years they were free of charge, as the Cell is worthless without content.
George Hotz is clearly in the wrong here, whether against the law at present or not. The desires of the few are not worth pain of many.
Every PS3 owner purchased the system for what it was designed to do. Play video games, and watch BluRay.
Other OS was a bonus feature that hacker used to circumvent what the PS3 is designed for, and it had nothing to do with Homebrew. There was never a promise that people could learn to use the Cell processor and develop unlicensed software that could be harmful.
You can make up whatever interpretation of the facts you desire, you can misinterpret what Sony sold, and you can make any excuse for a geek crying out for attention you want.
But you will never be right promoting this as fair play.
Common sense and any bit of self respect will lead a rational person to the conclusion that a spoiled brat destroyed millions of children's playing experience to be a pain in the butt.
There simply is no justification for his action.
