At least valve gets it. If we go digital nobody wants to buy a game or a movie 15 times just so they can play it on all the platforms they own.

This is why the appstore and xbl suck because they tie you to a product and force you to keep buying apple and xbox for the rest of your life if you don't want to lose all the stuff you own.

Wouldn't it be great if Sony and Steam went into a partnership?

Because if next generation you like new console X more than xbox you won't have access to all your bought stuff on xbl anymore. Same goes for the appstore. Even if the next droid is 10x better than the new iphone you will not be able to switch because again you would lose all your stuff.

@DaFreak Um...isn't that also the case with PSN games? If I buy PSN games and decide the Xbox 720 is what I want next generation, it's not like I can play Wipeout HD on it.

Sony made my current gen console choice easy by not allowing the ps3 to play ps2 games. That and charging a king's randsom at launch. We'll see what happens next gen.

So, yeah. I don't really see a reason to not buy Portal 2 for the PS3 now. In fact, that's what I'll be doing.

Then I'll grab the voucher, and play it on my PC instead.

Same here. My brother and I will play through this together, and just this weekend we were arguing about whether we will get the PS3 version or the Mac version.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

Yeah you do have to kind of wonder what the PC only price is. It HAS to be cheaper than the PS3, or no one would buy the PC only version - they'd all just buy the PS3 version, use the voucher and sell the PS3 version on ebay. There's also the crazy Steam sales, so who knows the PC version could go on sale for 75% off 6 months after it comes out....

@kurian2z5 Wait, what? Since when was the price of Portal 2 announced? There hasn't been any update on the Steam store, and I certainly haven't seen any news about the games price, and I certainly doubt it will only be $15 seeing as how it's going to be a full game instead of a two to three hour romp.

I'd like to think that there would be a price parity between the two products. Either way, so long as the difference isn't obscene (let's say, $10 is reasonable, and $20 is obscene) I'd still say it would be worth it since I get two copies of the game.

If this turns out to be false, I will print this out and literally eat my words.

Sony and Valve should just enter in some sort of deal where in that the content delivery on the PS3, as well as the online play is just Steam/Steamworks.

It'd pretty much be the best thing ever.

@Ray42 - Microsoft tried console/pc interplay with Shadowrun a few years ago. It was an absolute disaster. I can understand why that may have soured them on trying again, but I have faith that Valve can make it work (if anyone can).

I need a shower after even mentioning Shadowrun. That game was wasted potential from the start (which is a shame, because I enjoyed what few maps there were)

Well, Microsoft has its Games for Windows, and I bet they want to be a major competitor to Steam with their Games for Windows Marketplace. Sony has no such PC digital download mechanism, but a partnership with Valve/Steam could be a combination of forces.

Smart move, Sony, and if you make this PS3/Steam partnership a regular thing for most games, it'd be brilliant.

thats probably because no one even wanted that game. if they had done it on a game with a huge following or a studio who had a great reputation i bet things would have gone differently.Doing cross platform games isn't something you can try with a no name game.

@Jack Kevorkian - I know. I was just giving out a possible reason that this may be happening on the PS3 and not the 360.

@monkeyontherun4 - Why was that again? I know Shadowrun is a fantasy (or is it Sci-Fi?) franchise of some sort, but I forget which part of the game pissed fans off. Did fans want an RPG instead of a shooter?

ok then let me put it this way, i had never heard of it. Granted i dont hear about every game but i like to think i at least know about most of them. So they didn't advertise it well because i don't know anyone who got it. It would have to play to a pretty big crowd for it to catch on.

GETTING PS3 VERSION NOW! For both versions, why the hell not? You got physical and digital, nothing wrong with that at all.... other than the people who preorder it and get it at midnight of release though steam :(

Honestly, I've been an xbox fanboy for years. I just recently bought a PS3 but the xbox is still my favorite. I'm just saying all xbox has thats interesting to me is Halo, what with all these cross platform games now. The only reason I'll pick up a 360 game over a PS3 one is for the achievements :P

i just have trouble understanding why i seem to see these comments everywhere. i just recently got a ps3 over the holidays (yes i am a very late adapter) and i think it's cool, though if it weren't for blu-ray i honestly wouldn't see a good reason to own both consoles. they're just so similar...almost too similar...the occasional phenomenal exclusive is what makes having both seem like a good idea, and thankfully both consoles have that going for them.
