This is great and all, but you know what? I have wanted to play Modern Warfare 2 for like a week. I can't unless I feel like people running around under the map while invisible, infinite killstreaks on command, Commando x 10, and people carrying every weapon. It's unbearable.

That has nothing to do with Treyarch and all to do with PS3 CFW / Infinty Ward's code

I'm right there with you bud. I like playing one or two matches when I get a couple of minutes and I can't. I really wish I would have gotten BC2 instead of this...

Btw, shouldn't your prep for LBP2 be about over now?

Well then it's a good thing they're taking some initiative. A bunch of guys on my friends list got banned from MW2 for being in a Challenge Lobby; put a smile on my face.

I'll wait and see if patch works. It only freezes on me when I'm doing great in a match. If I'm 20- 2 it will freeze almost everytime lol . Never when I'm 2-10

@Jacksy I do alot of hacking and programming on the xbox and its about the same as ps3. It took a JTAG to get mw2 lobbies on the xbox. Now I dont do lobbies for either xbox or ps3 but it is either the new CFW on the ps3 which you can read about on psx scene or its infinifty wards code that is allowing for the hacks as they said on their blog that they relied on the ps3's secuirty. If im mistaken then someone let me know because I dont follow much ps3 hacking as of the past few weeks.

I don't understand why you got downvoted... You're right. Considering Treyarch developed Black Ops and Infinity Ward developed MW, it DOESN'T have anything to do with Treyarch. If anything, it would be Activision's fault for not requiring what's left of Infinity Ward to work on some sort of fix.

It's not really possible for us to know if they were being truthful about the reason for not being able to patch MW. there is a theory that Activision simply doesn't want to spend the money on fixing an "old" game. Both could be true, actually; Perhaps they were being truthful, in that the game relies on the PS3's security, and to fix it would require a massive rewrite of the game's network code, which would cost way too much.

It's not a good excuse, and I feel for you guys. I have both systems, but I have MW2 on PC and 360. I still play it here and there, as Black Ops can be too easy at times. My point is that this isn't Treyarch's fault, so I don't get why you were down voted.

Unless we were talking about World At War, because aren't they having the same issues?

It's almost certainly a coincidence. Patches can't happen this quickly on consoles, and that's based on 1st party red tape alone, without even taking into consideration the time to develop and test the patch.

However, I won't dismiss the possibility that Sony offered to expedite the process, given that it's for pretty much the biggest game out there right now. But even then, it's highly unlikely Treyarch wasn't already working on this beforehand, given it's not like they have a "make the game not freeze" button and addressing such bugs typically isn't such a smooth and quick process.

So when does the patch come out to make multiplayer a fun experience for anyone besides screeching 12 year olds who play 14 hours a day?

@InDurdenWeTrust

But in BC2 all the "glitches" and issues are just bad programming and a refusal to do any patches. I played the beta on PS3 and then bought the game, and I'm dead serious when I say that the beta was better in every way besides content quantity. It was more far more balanced and almost never had bad lag.

Now the game is just plagued with lag, has glitches that weren't in the beta, still has some glitches that were in the beta, and despite EA people on the forums claiming that they were trying to fix the issues, no patches ever come out that do. Their "updates" really just drastically overpower one weapon and horribly underpower another when people complain that one weapon is too powerful. I can still remember when the M1A1 suddenly had perfect accuracy, whether your aim was on them or not. And STILL the M60, a gun for the medic, is still one of the most OP guns I've ever seen in a game, despite a small nerf.

To put it simply, I've never had as much fun with the real game as I did with the beta because there's always insufferable lag now, as well as horribly overpowering bonuses for items and vehicles. It's so bad that tons of users (myself included) can't start a game with their stats (which unlock certain items and such), even if they repeatedly sign in and out of PSN. It's balls, and I now hate EA because of this crap. Oh, and remember that Joystiq article written a while back about how you could hold "O" or "B" before going to disarm a station so that you wouldn't pick up a weapon? It NEVER works on PS3. I've tried it hundreds of times, from all different angles and it just won't work. It gets so bad sometimes you can't disarm it at all until you pick weapons up and move them.

P.S. Many of these issues seem to be mostly on PS3 version, and I've heard the PC version has a lot less problems, but EA should definitely have been sued for the Onslaught add-on, because, at least on PS3, your friends couldn't hit enemies until they patched it, so it was basically unplayable at all except for host, even after a few days of being released.

Just a clarification,
The AK74U got fixed not the AK47. Both guns are in the game so I don't want people to get confused.

Finally, I hope they nerfed the freaking AK74U. It was really destroying the balance of a game when there's a gun that is an AR, a SMG and has a GL attachment.

I only experienced the Infinite Loading Loop once every 10 or fifteen games. It's annoying, sure, but it's not the end of the world. That being said, it's great that Treyarch is listening to its audience. I feel for the MW2 crowd, b/c part of the reason I went to console gaming was to escape that sort of exploit/cheat crap.

After a fair amount of MW2 on 360 without experiencing hackers (not counting 10th prestige hackers), I found a steam key for the game on eBay for like ten bucks and snatched it up to play while the TV was being used. The VERY FIRST GAME I played on the PC, there was a dude with aimbot crouched behind the counter of the Burger Town in Terminal, hosing everyone that was in his field of vision.

It's not that bad really, I never see hackers anymore, but it was pretty crazy that it happened during my first match.

Agreed, this is good that they are responding to the community. But ffs, CoD4 & MW2 are virtually unplayable thanks to countless different methods of hacking, modding & cheating, the list goes on. Surely it's not much to ask to knock up a quick patch and fix all this BS? ??

why the hell don't they fix the issues with Xbox multiplayer gameplay. we're always experiencing "connection interrupted" "migrating to a new host" or getting kicked out a match then it says "you must be signed in to xbox live to play" wtf this has been going on for a while & it's a constant problem.!!!

I agree, and I have a new theory. BO uses XBL for matchmaking on 360, but it uses Activision or Treyarch servers on the PS3, right? I'm basing this off of MW2 using IWNET on PC, and I know Sony forces devs/pubs to provide their own servers, which is why online play is free on PS3.

If this is true, here's the theory: Both versions of the game have the same basic network code, but work off of different networks. So things like how dropped signals are handled, infinite "Game is starting in 0 seconds" bug, things like that occur on BOTH systems. Maybe the PS3's lag and additional connection issues are due to a less reliable server network? Obviously PC is exempt from this, since the client isn't communicating with a host, it's communicating with a permanent server. I'm sure they have other problems, but you can't have host migration issues if there isn't a host to quit.

Either way, I agree with you. The two things that bug the crap out of me on 360 are the infinite "Starting in 0 seconds" bug, and the infinite "waiting for X players to join" garbage. And these happen frequently on XBox. I have no issues with MW2's connection, so I know this is unique to Blops.

What are they doing to the AK74U, anybody know? I don't use it often, but it is a good gun. I'd be curious to see what happens if they nerfed it. If they just took the grenade launcher off, that won't do much to the balance. Either the power or the range should come down. I've been trying out the Kiparis with extended mags, it works pretty well, but no SMG compares to the 74U in terms of accuracy and range.

Whatev, I use mostly M16, G11, and AK47 anyway.

Also curious to know what they're doing to the RC-XD. I don't really think the killstreaks are at the right kill numbers. RCXD should be a 4 or 5, since it's pretty much a guaranteed kill. Swap it out with the counter spy plane or SAM turret. I'd say you have a better chance missing with a pretator in Mw2 than running out of gas with the RC. And the predator was 5 kills.

this is all BS. they may "know" of our problems; they aint doin squat to fix em.
treyarch has no phone #.
playstation points at activision.
activision has an automated "how to fix freezing" response that includes such helpful information as, "clean the disk."
CLEAN THE DISK?!?!
does activision think its customer base is a mental institution or a psych ward???? wow.
i've changed my router settings numerous times -- and with the help of the manufacturer!!! -- and while playstation says there's "no problem with black ops," this article and update both address "known connectivity problems."
so... either sony is as stupid as activision assumes its customers to be, or we're stuck in a continuous loop of "it's his fault." "no... it's his fault."
treyarch will get zero of my future dollars. i'll switch to a new game franchise before i support this crap company. if you don't invest in customer service, i don't invest in you. simple.
