Dead Space for iPhone / iPod Touch and iPad now live (Or: Play Dead Space when you can't play Dead Space)
35
You're at work. The boss is really getting on your nerves. Dead Space 2 is out today ... but it'll be at least six hours before you manage to extract yourself from the sprawl (of cubicles). You could strategically dismember your coworkers, sure, but that's not only difficult, it's illegal. Instead, we're going to recommend that you download Dead Space for your iPhone/iPod Touch or iPad and get down to the Dead Space-ing. Use stasis to freeze an enemy, switch to the plasma cutter, orient it vertically, sever his arm and then use kinesis to pick it up and shoot it through his torso.
Having spent some hours with the game already, we can promise you this: Dead Space on iOS is a surprisingly competent mobile approximation of Dead Space. We'll have a full review later this week, but you've still got half a work-day to kill.

Just searched for some gameplay footage on Youtube and...

WOW. That's all I can say. Man that would be awesome on the PSP *cries*
Ah well...I'm a pretty big Dead Space fan so I have to give this a shot. Hopefully my fingers won't clutter the screen too much.

I noticed on its store page it had a lot of in-app purchases. Are these necessary to perform well in the game? I don't want to buy it if I'm just going to have to keep spending more once I've already got it.

They weren't live when I started playing it a couple days ago, and I'm doing fine and enjoying myself.
The upgrade tree definitely seems steep (are trees steep?) so I can imagine not wanting to do a New Game+ playthrough in order to upgrade everything and just dropping a couple dollars.

Now here's the question. Will this run on my 3rd gen iPod touch. I was very let down that I couldn't play Infinity Blade. Here's hoping that I can do some mobile dismemberment.

Should this game be played before, during or after my playthrough of Dead Space 2? I'm preparing Dead Space 2, Extraction and iPad Dead Space as a three-course meal of exquisite grandeur.

@yoshi95 Uhm.. Yeah there are. There are also 8GB 4th gens.
Sauce: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/
& Just google the 3rd Gen, my friends have them.
4th Gen 8GB does not suffer from performance issues because it uses the A4.
3rd gen does, and that's what made me choose 32GB. I have iPhone 4 now
&& apparently this game has been doing very good interms of compatability, seen reviews of 2nd gen on like 3.1.3 working just fine

This actually looks like a fun game for iphone rather than the 90% of shovelware on the app store might pick this up.

The iPad version is called HD? I hate marketers sometimes...

1024x768 is pretty much HD in 4:3.

It's excellent. Definitely on par with Infinity Blade, N.O.V.A. 2, and all the sweet games that came out last month.

I'm playing this on my 1st gen 32gig touch and it's running fine. There are a few framerate hiccups here and there, but usually when I first fire it up and then it smooths out.
