Heavy Rain film adaptation helmed by Deadwood creator
47
Heavy Rain is getting the Hollywood treatment and, hopefully, some American accents to go along with it. David Milch, executive producer of "NYPD Blue" and "Deadwood," is working on an adaptation that will simply be called "Rain." According to Variety, Milch will begin writing the script after finishing work on his current project, a new HBO series called "Luck."
"David Milch's incredible ability to transform intense and complex storylines into gripping, popular drama makes him the perfect partner for us to have on Heavy Rain," producer Bob Shaye told the outlet. We then fictionally added, "Milch's penchant for adding male nudity into NYPD Blue makes him the ideal candidate for this project."

You know what'd be interesting? If this were a straight up faithful adaptation of the game with no bizarre differences from the source material....and they don't mention it was from video game in the ads or trailers except very briefly.

That's extremely annoying about 'story game' both in Europe and Japan with multiple endings, but yes sometimes there is the 'canon ending'.
Or they could they make a new route just for the movie.

Let's just hope in the movie, Madison Paige decides to distract the club owner with her naked boobies before hitting him with the table lamp!
Btw, let's start speculating whose boobs they will be...?
I'm saying, uh... Well, I don't know. Wouldn't it be better if all the actors were fairly unknown to the mainstream?

This would be cool if they did parallel storylines that showed what happens with different choices.

why would i pay $10 to see a movie i already paid $60 to see?
just kidding, i really loved the game and wish the team great success. i look forward to their next game.
honestly though, i don't see the point in a film version, and i'm a huge fan of film noire.

For a long time, I thought the game was supposed to be set in Nova Scotia or something.
But, yeah, they need to do a realistic interpretation for it to really 'pop'!
What's the likelihood Ethan will fail to find Shaun and end up spraying his brains on the wall?
Answer: not likely.
But he absolutely has to get caught at the hotel, just so he can escape the police station later.

Milch is fcking fantastic. However, I'm still bitter that he never did the Deadwood movie that everyone else except him seemed to be aboard for.
Then again, I don't know if what I love about his TV series' would really carry over to a standalone 2 hour movie.

But how will they reflect all the possible outcomes of the game in a single linear movie? ... also how many of the actors will end up reprising their roles? (since some of the characters were actually scanned from real actors.)

Hopefully not too many of them. I mean, sure of them were video game good. But there's definitely better actors out there for this material.
There's also plenty of worse actors as well, I imagine. Long as we don't get Mark Wahlberg for Jason I'm cool with it.

Not liking this. The whole point of the game is choice and consequence, so you get different outcomes. Sure, there's a base story (about the murders, the murderer, etc.) but wasn't the point of the game to be like an interactive movie? So why make a movie about it that has none of the gimmicks of the game?

Because it's a movie of the story and not a movie of the game? Obviousness aside, more than likely because the concept story is good, and Hollywood is hard up for original ideas.
Also means they can pick and choose which storyline paths they like best as a bonus

I don't think it's going to be called "Rain". They just call it "Rain" a couple of times because they thought gamers called it that way. This is Variety we're talkin about.
Besides, they then say something like "Heavy Rain, which is based on Sony's video game", implying the movie'll be called the same.
Anyway, I am somewhat optimistic about this one. Hope it doesn't turn into the story of an American marriage that, trying to stay together after the death of their only child, go on a spiritual journey to London. I hear the rain's pretty heavy there.

I understand the story part, I still just think it would ruin the experience of why Heavy Rain was created in the first place, an interactive experience.

Does every game need a bloody "hollywood treatment"
the reason this game is soo good is the decision/consequence style of it... how exactly will that work in a movie.

Exactly!! The point of this game was about your choices. Any character could die at any time and certain choices could change the storyline so what ending will they choose???? Better yet: what story ARC will they choose. This is ridiculous...

They'll probably just follow the best path for each character, We the gaming audience know what some of the other paths are but the movie going public that never played it will simply see the best parts like they were watching a walk through. Of course seeing as HR is like a 6 hours game they're going to have to cut a bunch of things out to get it to fit into a 2 hour movie so maybe they'll kill at least one character just to speed things up.

@ReginaldFish Because in every way an indie YouTube short absolutely is showing how a multi million dollar Hollywood film with real actors would be, right?

Except the big "twist" (if you consider it one) is already ruined to everybody who finished the game. And those happen to be the most of people who would want to watch the movie.

HEAVY RAIN can't please them all, that much is certain. Personally, I thought it was a nice title worth at least a playthrough(and not some half-assed viewing on YouTube; especially for a game with multiple story paths). Dragged on a bit near the end, but I think it's nitpicky to complain about the language/acting, considering some of the other drivel out there, both gaming and film-wise.
. . . Are you in competition with "Delita"? Or the same person, different SN?
