I second that notion and also a back-lit wireless keypad as well. I wish NA received limited PS3s too.

The farther you are from your tv, no matter how large it is, the darker it gets in the room...

Not everyone has decent night vision.

How hard is it to put out new colors WORLDWIDE?? Seriously it's always just Japan that gets the good stuff.

I know it's ridiculous. If apple can sell 14 different colors of ipods, there's no reason Sony can't make Playstations different colors. I think the tricky part comes if certain colors don't sell well, and retailers don't want to get stuck with them. I know that happened with the pink and purple iMacs back in the day.

Which is completely ridiculous. It would definitely sell.

@Kjartan - I've been drooling over the white PS3 since it came out. If they would put it out here, they would have a second PS3 sale to me, and probably a lot of others.

I'd also settle for a PS3 in the same color as the red Dual Shock 3 that is out there.

I'm of the opinion that they do it to increase the customer demand to a point where a large number of people could justify with themselves buying a 2nd PS3. Sony isn't the only one to do it though, Nintendo did the same thing with Red/Black Wii's.

Mind you I still think it's a dick move...but honestly I wouldn't even consider buying a 2nd console just a year (or so) after buying the 1st. I'd have to get tired of my existing one first to make a purchase like this based on pure aesthetics.

Can't believe how hard/expensive it is to get a universal remote that will work with the PS3... You can either have a stack of remotes, an IR extender for the PS3 but then you can't turn it ON (kinda a big deal...), a universal that works with the PS3's blutooth but disconnects constantly so it's useless, or a harmony and THEN buy a PS3 harmony extender for an extra $50 on top of the remote itself (don't get me wrong I love my harmony's but they're expensive as can be).

On something as expensive as a PS3 an IR reciever wouldn't have killed them, the xbox has one... Or atleast power the USB when the console is in sleep mode so you can turn it on with an IR dongle... you could even probably do that in a firmware update...

I would use my PS3 for all my media watching instead of my just limited disc usage if I could just turn it on more easily... and by extension I would recommend it more as a media hub system like the 360 as well... PS3 is easier to share media with, plays more codec, has a better upscaling DVD player, plays blu-rays and streams netflix with surround sound(!) WITHOUT a live subscription... but you can't turn it on without an extra controller (and the streamed media playback is slightly lower quality than the 360, but it's trivial with low quality source files anyway) and that really kills the whole deal. Better in almost every way at media but in the real world just not worth using... and $2 worth of IR reciever hardware would fix it.

I agree that Sony had their head up their @$$ when they excluded a cheap IR receiver, but if you've already got a Harmony, you've equally got your head up yours for excluding the PS3 adapter. Just bite the bullet and enjoy full functionality already.

I actually have my PS3 standing up behind my tv so the bluetooth works great. otherwise I'd have to move the PS3 to point at the IR sensor

I have an an Xbox1, a 360 and an HTPC hooked up as well, I'm catered for with options and by extension have already spent too much to justify $50 for functions I have for free elsewhere even if they are better, that's a fair number of great used games on ebay, and the harmony plays great with everything else right out of the box.

Just get a Blu Link PS3 BT/IR Universal Remote. They are fairly cheap for a universal remote and include both a bluetooth and ir sensor in one remote so you don't need any kind of dongle or expensive transmitter. Works really good and even has PS buttons on it. I got mine through Amazon.

Technically you can turn it on with your Harmony remote. Just enable HDMI detection on your PS3 (assuming you use HDMI). When the PS3 detects you turning on your TV/Receiver (whatever your HDMI is routed through) it also turns on.

Was a pleasant surprise when I set up my remote a few months ago.

I just don't understand why they designed the PS3 remote to turn on no matter what button is pressed. I had to get rid of mine because of that. We kept turning it on accidentally.

The remote REALLY needs a subtitle on/off instead of having to cycle to the end, sometimes there are like 18 sub tracks and then I often cycle too far and have to go back through the 18 again! Another thing I want is volume up and down on the remote. That's about it. I use my Blu-ray remote every day.
