If you're looking to do something more with your PlayStation Move on a PC than, say, change the color of the controller's bulb, you'll be interested to know that Sony's giving a presentation at GDC 2011 on the "Move Server" project -- a project said to allow "academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs." The speech will be held on Wednesday, March 2, and lead by senior developer support engineer John McCutchan of Sony Computer Entertainment America.
Sony's "Move Server" project has yet to be announced by the company, but the GDC session listing certainly seems to spell out its intention of bringing Move functionality to PCs everywhere -- we've reached out to Sony for official comment all the same. Regardless, we'll assuredly find out more at SCEA's GDC session early next month.

Been there done that? Kinect is being hacked? If Microsoft had helped think of how much further along this development would be. There would already be little indie games out. This is awesome! It is adding more worth to my purchase, and will be better supported. Could allow for cross platform support too. Like multiplayer and stuff. Unlikely, but this is certainly not just nothing special because of kinect.

I would like to see what some people can do. I know I would like my ideas for Move to be made real but I want someone else to do the work

That picture looks like a little Move person in front of a huge monitor.

Interesting I guess. I can't really think of anything to use it for but I suppose someone would come up with something. maybe we'll see some indie games or something. Or a 3d editing tool
I'll tell you what though, if they had a kinect program or game that could teach me sign language I'd get it. and I don't even own an xbox or kinect.

The obvious thing to use with the Move on the PC is Kinect. It would be the same thing as using Kinect with the Wiimote like some indies have done. Actually this would be the best of both worlds as Kinect fullbody tracking is more reliable then a basic Cam like the PSEye.

This is a great idea, now I would like proper drivers to use the Dualshock 3 as a controller on the PC... I am doing it but it sucks using a USB cable.

I love the open-ness of Sony lately. Stuff like PS Suite on other devices and Move Server are the way to go, I think

he's serious but I know what you're getting at. I think sony just doesn't want their console to be open. Sony is big enough to succeed in the face of piracy because they sell hardware and have money coming in from all sorts of directions but they still have other developers and publishers to protect. some smaller studios and publishers could really take a hit from piracy

@Jack Kevorkian I didn't realise that the PS3 was hacked recently. I see where you got the sarcasm from though. Go in the comment section of the PS Suite on other devices article. That's the direction im heading in.

But being open doesn't mean to be hacked. Aside from the efforts of a few individuals lately to compromise the security features, this is a different strategy to give developers the tools to things that could ne the base for future products or give producers ideas.
There is a difference between hacking the machine and Sony providing the toolset to produce for the machine. Besides, you can be sure PS suite won't be available unless you are a developer.
The idea with Move Server is cool, though. I have been looking into the Move's SDK lately.

Only on the PC, is where you will see MS Kinect and PS Move programed to work together and love each other till the end.
Imagine Combining the Two? That would be so romantic. =D

We already do this better with Wiimote + Kinect. I can't see it as bad - the more tools the better! But this sure feels like begging for attention ; the attempt at openness is very strange from a company that will sue you and have your computers taken away for trying to run Linux on your PS3.

There's a big difference between stopping you from doing things illegally and offering the ability to use an accessory with another device. That's like calling Apple hypocrites for trying to stop people from pirating music but then making headphones that work with any other devices. Accessories have little to do with the security of a system.

*ahem* I meant stopping you from doing illegal things, not that Sony was illegally preventing people from hacking or something.

Open Source Sony! First the playstation network across multiple devices, playstation suite on android and now move on PC. It seems Sony is seeing the forest for the trees and finally expanding their reach beyond their own hardware. It's very google of them.

This definitely sounds interesting. Whilst a little hard to callobrate, I think the Playstation Move is fantastic. This could be rather neat. Heck, even using it as a pointer for presentations or something similar could be useful, especially since it could be an interactive pointer. I can't wait to see what the hackers... I mean, programmers do with this.
