Battlefield 1943 for PC is not going to happen. Posting on the official Battlefield blog, Karl Magnus Troedsson, general manager of DICE, confirmed that both 1943 and Onslaught, a co-op add-on for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, have been "officially canceled." He states that the team is focusing all energy on Battlefield 3 in order to make it "the best Battlefield game ever" and "the biggest launch in DICE's history." (Good luck getting into a game during the first three days!)
Battlefield 1943's delayed trek to PC had become hopeless in recent months, though company reps believed it was still set to deploy at some point when we followed up last summer. The downloadable experiment has been a resounding success on consoles, netting $16 million for Electronic Arts.

It is pretty funny when you look back at all the times they gave us a half-hearted reminder that the game was still coming along, even a good thousand months after the console releases. By "funny" I might have meant "hate-inducing." EA, if you didn't give a damn about PC owners, you could've just, you know, told us when you found this out... the breakup is easier to deal with that way.

Not trying to be facetious, but were that many PC gamers really looking forward to Onslaught and 1943??

@Omnistatic Hell, I honestly don't know. And having purchased the 360 version on sale, I can comfortably live without it. My main point of contention is the "sure we'll release that... I think... if we have nothing better to do... oh wait nevermind lol" attitude

i suppose you have a point, my point is: Is upsetting the few people waiting for these two ports worth it for the benefit of Battlefield 3?
and to which I reply a resounding YES.
don't get it twisted, i'm a long time PC gamer, BF fan, and feel bad for those that were looking forward to that experience. But BF3 is something I have been waiting for since the release of BF2, and I believe there are many more out there hoping that it will be a return to roots so to speak, after the detours through Bad Company *thumbs up* and Heroes *shudder*
I'm petty sure any long time fan of the series will forgive DICE as long as the final product meets and exceeds their expectations... (unlike Onslaught and 1943 for me)

I agree with you. It's a loss, but no big deal. BF1943 was only an update with three maps, and if it means we _honestly_ will get a better experience with BF3, then so be it.

I don't understand EA. We all loved 1943 on consoles, it made millions of dollars.... so you don't release any more maps, don't support it on PC (battlefields home), and tease us for over a year before crushing our dreams. GAH
At least release BBC2: Vietnam as standalone DLC! I don't have BBC2 anymore and want to play..

@shabby329 You don't have a pc copy of a game? Did you trade it in? O_o. Guess you coulda lost it or gave it away. But, I think that last sentence might be indicative of the troubles publishers have with pc. On topic, did any of us really expect them to release this two years after the fact? I think it is a shame though and would have bought it again.

So your computer can't play BC2, but you want to play an expansion for the game that utilises the same engine and attributes.
I see what you did there.

Onslaught could've been so much better if there were an AI director a la L4D...
or even a survival mode where you need to survive wave after wave of reinforcements.
1943.. meh, PC users aren't missing a lot if they've already played 1942. I wasn't too impressed with 1943, as it includes my least favorite maps: Wake Island, Coral Sea and Guadal Canal....

yea, it's probably the lack of 64 players that prevented them from releasing some of the other maps: El Alamien, Stalingrad, ect... some of them were quite large.
Anyways, my dream game of BF3 is including the best maps from ALL of the BF games till now...

Didn't even realize there was a BF3 in dev. I'm also curious at this point what more they can do to the series besides give it a graphical facelift, add more maps, and maaaybe integrate perks.

this is a true sequel to Battlefield 2. this is not a sequel to Bad Company. So they have a lot they can do. they can go back to the formula that made the originals so fun (some of it is there in BC).

Yeah I get that this isn't a sequel to BC (never played any of them). I'm still just not sure how you can improve on Battlefield outside of a cosmetic sense, since as you said, the original ones were already so fun.
Then again, I didn't really think they could make Rock Band 3 be much more of a change than Rock Band 2, but they proved me wrong there.

@Gwnalle Yup, you'll find plenty in stores. It's getting the servers right through the first week that sucks. That's why I usually finish SP before even thinking about jumping online. In 1943's case, the tutorial helped me fly before I ever got into a game.

I don’t think he meant that the way you two interweb smarty pantz took it. I think he meant EA has caught the Bethesda Bug. It is the disease that makes a developer (and now publishers as well) not want to make as much money as they can. For example, they could continue making Fallout and Oblivion DLC up until Skyrim and I would still buy it.

@The Wicker Man It's open to interpretation, and neither you nor I can confirm what he meant currently; because of that, I took a very neutral stance in my joke and did not elevate it to "internet smarty pantz" level, Mr. Condescending.

@SpanWolf Hey, hey! Don't be mean! Cause wherever you go, there you are. But I really do think you are way out of line on this. I have never been a supporter of EA until the past few years. They really have done a good job turning it around. This news still sucks though, but it is not Acti-Evil yet. I think someones mouth wrote development cheques their budget couldn't cash. It is always better to only confirm release when it is for sure.

@Omnistatic Well besides spending a year continuously promising a release only to delay and then ultimately cancel it, as well as not offering content to PC users, there is the online pass thing they started. The whole debacle with the new Hot Pursuit game that was so bad that they are actually offering refunds to people. Promised the game would support 3D and then never delivered on it. I asked for a partial refund instead of a full refund myself, because I own a 3D TV and I bought the game to have a good 3D racer, but still want to keep it even though they lied. Charging more for the PC version of Dead Space 2 and not only offering less content, removing content from the PC version, and not offering DLC. Then there is a growing trend of not offering DLC to PC owners of their multiplatform games. The growing practice of releasing time lock demos that you can only download and play before the game comes out and lock up when the game does come out, sometimes even before then. It makes no sense.
There is more, but that was just off the top of my head.

So you're complaining about 'project $10', then going on to complain about them not releasing DLC.
How exactly is 'project $10' a bad thing. It doesn't restrict you from doing anything. If you buy the game new you get a bit of extra bonuses for free. If you buy it second hand and choose not to buy the extra for $10 you get just as good a game without the little bit of extras which make no difference.

"So you're complaining about 'project $10', then going on to complain about them not releasing DLC."
What does one have to do with the other?
Not to mention that PTD started as a way to give a little bonus content to new buyers to incentive them to buy new instead of used, and has turned into pure screw used owners by making them buy a pass to play online. It's not about getting more content, it's about used buyers not even having access to basic game features unless they pony up an extra ten bucks. Sounds like it restricts you from a whole lot now doesn't it?
And there is almost never a good or acceptable excuse for releasing DLC on all platforms but one. The two exceptions are timed exclusives, or if something would cost WAY to much to port.
