After two decades at the helm of annelid annihilators Team17, Martyn Brown has left the Worms developer to work as an independent video game consultant, according to a post on his (private) Facebook page, as noted by Eurogamer. Brown co-founded Team17, which got its start developing games for the Amiga (before your time?).
"I had an amazing 20-year ride and whilst it's the end of a truly enjoyable period of my life, it equally signals the start of a really exciting new one," Brown posted before swinging away on a grappling hook, throwing a grenade, falling on that grenade and blowing himself up.

I'm still amazed at how awesome some Amiga games were. That system was so far ahead of its time.

@Hords I was so jealous of my neighbor who had one. He had Alien Breed which I give much respect for!

I can't imagine doing anything for 20 years straight... Besides maybe existing I guess.

Oh well, now that Andy Davidson and Mr. Brown are gone, the company might as well just cease to exist. Honestly, ever since Mr. Davidson left Team 17 (after the release Worms Armageddon), everything about their games went downhill.

@VeeDeeVee I think they are the only game company in the world which releases DE-makes of their own games.
Every single new Worms game is worse than the last with more and more features and weapons removed. On top of that the abysmal Leisure Suit Larry and mediocre Alien Breed games.
Real shame as they used to be my favourite gaming company in the 90's.

That´s true it looks completely amateurish...... guess that shows the great development of team 17 as a company.

Wow, he spent *20 years* at the helm of Team17? Based on Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, I'm assuming no one had the heart to tell him it wasn't a submarine.

Did he already leave? If not, is there any chance he could look into fixing Worms for Android before he goes? It would be nice if the game, you know, worked.

I own and still play Arcade Pool for the Amiga. Team 17 is an awesome developer.

Well, the end of an era.. not really a good one. Seriously what has team 17 done for the last 15 years??? worms annnnnnndddd???? team 17 was good in the amiga times (good not amazing, most of their games were not as fantastic as they made us believe) but after that team 17 was trapped in a timewarp and never really showed any kind of evolution. There should be a statue of andy davidson at the entrance of team 17, without him there will be no worms and team 17 would have ceased to exist 20 years ago, they never really evolved like 99% of the old studios, and now well.... let´s see what happens, let´s just hope is not another 40 years of worms.....

I'd probably get tired of making Worms after 20 years, too.

Worms 3D was the last worms game where it felt like Team 17 were excited/enthusiastic about the franchise. Since then it just seems as though they lost interest.

I can't even believe that Team 17 continues to operate. How do they manage to pay the salaries of 17 people?

Something a lot people don't know about Martyn is that he also held a game retailer named Microbyte back in the day. Anyone remember them? I wrote a short blog post about my time working for them how I remember Martyn...

Justin, that last line had me loading up 'Worms: Open Warfare' immediately with a nostalgic smile on my face. Nice kudos to MartynBrown, with a great closer.
