With iOS game prices as they are...should I buy an iPod Touch instead of a 3DS? For good or bad I now find it hard to see the value of $30 or $40 portable games.

@Poor Tom 3DS. any fool thinking iphone/ipod touch are great choices for these games is just that, a fool. the games are great, but the platform of choice is just bad.

@Poor Tom They will each have their own benefits. I'm personally waiting for 3DS and iPod Touch makes the wait a lot easier, iPod Touch is one of the best investments you can make and I'd recommend that, it has a pretty amazing selection of games. Some rip-offs are pretty good like Gameloft's Zelda ripoff, Sacred Odyssey. I would recommend getting an iPod Touch and waiting to buy a 3DS.

despite what some reviews say, I've rarely felt that these iphone games were worth more than the $1-$3 that they were being offered for. there definitely isnt the production value in them, though western devs dont certainly seem to be trying very hard in the DS/PSP games either.

I mostly enjoy the ios games very much. Ash, the two Final Fantasy ports, Chaos Rings, and others are mostly what I use my ipod touch for. Some games don't work that well, such as Sonic, but do a little research and it's fairly easy to weed those out from the good ones. With high price of games and the two incoming next-gen handhelds, it's pretty likely that I'll be sticking with ios. I have a 360 and PS3 for everything else.

@Poor Tom neither of the new handhelds coming out are swaying me to a purchase so my vote is iOS. The games get better every day and it does so much more than the 3DS.

6th Gen Pokemon will probably force me to buy a 3DS though but thats a long way off.

@Poor Tom If you listen to a lot of music on the go, then get an iPod Touch. Being able to play games is just a bonus.

My iPod Touch has all but replaced my DS and a year ago I would have thought that was crazy talk. I personally don't have an interest in the 3DS and Apple may be to blame.

For now I'm only holding on to my DS to play Dragon Quest VI but after that *shrug*

@GewurztraminerX

an iPod Touch or an iPhone 4 are easily the best devices you can own, besides PSN, this is one of the only places that has my CC on save. After my PSP broke i got an iPod Touch first then upgraded to the iPhone because to have a phone and a iPod Touch is just so much win!

The 3DS seems like nothing more than a souped up DS. The 3D can be turned off, and all indications are that no games will rely on or mandate that you use 3D...thus it will be an unnecessary feature. If you're looking for actual gaming innovation, the NGP seems to be where it's at...with much more horsepower, dual analogs, and (most fascinatingly) touch-sensitive screen AND back.

That said, there may still be an answer: If you are a hardcore gamer, and plan to do nothing other than game, I'd go with Nintendo (even if you're just getting the normal DS). However, if you are a normal human being and think you might benefit from having a more portable device, with large capacity, music and video playback, and pretty robust web access...get the iPod Touch.

@Poor Tom EA actually makes some pretty good iOS games. The controls take getting use to of course, but games like Madden are arguably better than the PSP/DS iterations and certainly a lot cheaper. Gameloft makes a lot of games that are ripoffs/clones of popular console titles. The thing is though that aside from voice acting they're pretty darn good games. You can play them for free to a certain point and then decide if you want to buy 'em.

I had an old ipod touch but that was before all the apps were available. I hardly took it with me anywhere. But I replaced it with an iphone which obviously goes with me because it's also my phone. There is a lot of icrap, don't get me wrong, but there are many full-featured games like real racing 2, GTA:CTW, lego harry potter, and others that are a fraction of their PSP/DS siblings. Always having it with me means I game on it more than on my DS/PSP. That's my opinion

I love iOS games because of the sales always going on. However, I do tend to go crazy during these sales. I picked up Madden, Sims 3 Ambitions, Cause of Death, Tetris, Sim City Deluxe, and Monopoly. I am actually enjoying Madden and Cause of Death very much, haven't even gotten around to playing the others too much.

Also, Gameloft is having a big sale too. I picked up Zombie Infection and Shadow Guardian from them.

"Mobile Gamers" are crazy people. Hell Mac Gamers which make up a big part of this are even more insane of a concept.

Pretty good selection. FIFA is terrible though; Pro Evo is much better. Even better, there is no daft commentary on it. Telling me the blinding flash of the obvious. Great for waiting for the train in the morning; can get through a couple of matches while I'm on the train too. And it fits easily in my pocket. So that's a big plus for me for mobile gaming.

Valentine's Day is a convenient excuse for a promotion, but it is clear that EA is cutting the price to push their games to the top sellers before the launch of the Verizon iPhone on February 10.

What's the word on Mass Effect Galaxy? Working through my first playthrough of ME2 right now, wondering if this offers much to that experience.

@nickux According to the reviews you wouldn't know it had anything to do with mass effect if it weren't for the title.

Taking a trip as of Friday and I don't own any of these games. Which 5 should I definitely get? Any pass-&-play multiplayer games?

We love sales...Thanks for the post!
I'm wondering : how much can you invest for a mobile game?(the maximum) and why is there such a big difference of price between the console game and mobile game?
