PSA: Battlestar Galactica Online now in open beta
21
Just because the show concluded back in 2009, it doesn't mean you've seen the last of Adama, Leoben and the rest of those zany survivors and the Cylons who chase them. As expected, an open beta for Bigpoint Games' space combat MMO Battlestar Galactica Online is currently underway and anyone can play. The beta's available exclusively on SyFy.com for the next six weeks.
Battlestar Galactica Online takes place during an unspecified time in the television drama's run, where both Cylon and Colonial forces are trapped in a sector of space, vying for military and resource dominance. Lolcats not included.

The demo doesn't work for me. I have tried multiple times to sign up, register, download their little plug-in, etc. It doesn't work.

This is rather disconcerting. I can't find the file it supposedly installed, can't uninstall it.... hmmm...

Is this game like the TV show in that it is really good for 3 years and then sucks at the end?
**SPOILERS** It all stops making any sense and the end is a cop-out.

I thought the finale was actually ok. Even if it wasn't a satisfying conclusion, it was at least entertaining to watch. OTOH, most of season 4 was completely dull. I can only take so much screen time of the Chief looking conflicted before I space out. And I like the Chief! But you can't base a whole show on his "huh? oh man... wait, what?" expression.
But yeah, the show went from big issues like "how do we survive in a post-apocalyptic world, where our supplies are low, we are pursued by a relentless enemy, and we don't even get along with one another" to "hey, what is the big dealio with this baby?"
Still a great series overall. I recommend it despite the slide at the end. It still provided a lot more net entertainment (to me) than most TV shows.

Hmm... I'll wait for now. I haven't gotten into space-related games (although I am a huge fan of BSG), though I think if I did it would be EVE... How does this compare?

@Bizzll I played EVE for several months about a year ago. I played BSGO today for about 4 hours. BSGO is EVE-lite. It's free so I'd recommend giving it a shot when you have a couple hours to dedicate to it. If you don't like it, I seriously doubt you'll like EVE. If it's right up your alley, then stick with it. If you get bored after 3 or 4 hours and realize you've seen most of what it has to offer and wish it went deeper, go buy EVE immediately.

The chat filter in the games Bigpoint puts out is ridiculous. I got auto-banned for an entire day for saying the abreviation "wtf". I may like BSG, but I'm never signing up for one of their games again.
