What the hell? Was there an Activision conference today that no one mentioned?

So instead of a yearly Tony Hawk or GH, we get yearly spidey?

These recent Activision posts are laughably pathetic... You keep thinking they've learned but they just replace the milked franchises with a fresh one or really bad ideas for games... Wipeout and Family Guy video games? Ugh...

@colinisrad

I wouldn't scoff so quickly since apparently a Wipeout game is in amongst the top sellers for the Wii.

they have billions in CoD money, Billions in GH money and yet they still rush out terrible spider-man games that don't sell as much as they would like them to. I don't get it.

take your time. make the next "arkham asylum." you have the money. would it kill them to delay a game for better quality like rockstar, sony, or microsoft?

Spiderman should be awesome, and it should sell like hotcakes but it's going to be rushed and it's going to bring nothing new to the table and it's going to flop.

Give me another open world to swing across again, but let me do it with a friend this time. It would kick all kinds of ass to leap off buildings with a friend online. Team Spidey and Venom up to fight Carnage. It's been done before. However they want to do it, just make it happen!

Agreed. I played the heck out of Web of Shadows but never even bothered to play Shattered Dimensions because it wasn't open world.

I actually really enjoyed Spiderman Shattered Dimensions. The only bad part was every Spidey was way annoying. Other than that, great stuff!

Bah I loved Shattered Dimensions. Anyone who claims the story was lacking clearly doesn't read the comics. Each version of Spider-Man was spot on, Amazing Spider-Man being the clear winner with his epically lame jokes and puns. I think I need to go back and play it some more. Captured the essence of Spidey comics perfectly.

@Anticrawl

I've never read a Spiderman before but liked the voice actors for each Spiderman as each of them played Spiderman before in a cartoon series.

Holy jeez Axtivision, You guys are so dumb! (spoken like antoine dodson--future activision game star)
You cancel a game series you beat to death and another that people were actually talking about only to announce the other stuff you announced today?
This company and UBI have so much in common. A couple good games surrounded by soooo muuuuch craaaap.

Hopefully it will be based upon "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark".

You don't play as Spidey; you play as Bono. Side quests include raising funds, writing an overblown self-indulgent mock opera soundtrack, postponing the opening date, and trying to keep your actors alive. The big boss battle is you versus the critics.

You lose.

Many years ago I believed Activision had a licenses best interest at heart with quality games like Spider-Man, Tony Hawk etc. but once they tasted the money that these franchises provided, they did everything they could to milk them dry. This was either foolishness, in thinking that an annual franchise could never run dry (ala EA's sports games) or that they didn't care if it did, as they wanted to make as many games possible before the inevitable decline, hoping for other future franchises to replace them. That hasn't exactly happened, unless Activision wants to hedge all of their bets on WoW and CoD.

With milking a franchise like Spider-Man, that's not good business for anyone. Spider-Man SD was passable, but it had two years development. A sequel to that game in less time can only undermine what quality was in the original to begin with. Arkham City will literally wipe its ass with the next Spider-Man game as they will be released in the same time frame. Stupid greedy Activision in its infinite wi$dom.

@Milf Biggenson

I liked Batman Arkham Asylum more than Shattered Dimensions in terms of gameplay and story plus AA made you feel like Batman with puzzles and looking for clues. I agree that Spiderman will likely be rushed and not like up to the hype depending on what type of game it is. I hope its like SD more of less and has more villains and a bit longer than three acts.

I love Family Guy and I understand Wipeout's appeal, but are either a worthwhile TV franchise that'll translate into a good game?

Why not make a game based off TV shows like:

Human Target - A game that would play a little like Kane & Lynch, except good. Multiplayer co-op, each player gets a different character (I get Guerrero!) with their own skill sets for missions. In single player, AI controls your team, but you can switch off (think Dragon Age).

Flashpoint - Squad based FPS much like Ghost Recon, but on a scale that matches the TV show. The setting would be urban city in Canada (like the show) with all the cool tech gadgets the SRU have at their disposal (basically a SWAT game, but cooler).

Spartacus - This would lend itself well as a fighting game. I understand there have been fighting games in a similar setting, but none have really been done very well. With the shows ultra violent look and feel, I think it would stand out nicely.

Castle - When was the last good "detective" style game released? I know there's a couple on the handhelds, and there's the CSI series. But I think a detective game with a little action and a lot of Nathan Fillion would be a hella fun game.

Parks and Recreation - Okay, hear me out. This one would be a "sim city" style game set in Pawnee. You are an intern asked to improve the town and you have the cast of the show as your "advisors". Yes, Ron Swanson would be your advisor, and every time you successfully complete a task, you get a "point" that you can spend by picking a attribute off of Ron Swanson's Pyramid of Greatness.

Family Guy? Wasn't there a Family Guy game for PS2/Xbox put out a few years back. I wouldn't mind a Family Guy game on PS3/Xbox 360 if its similar to The Simpsons game that EA put out a few years back. Spiderman Shattered Dimensions was the closest to a game based on a cartoon as it featured voice actors/actresses that did voice work for previous Spiderman game cartoon. I just wonder if we're getting a sequel to Shattered Dimensions as there's a cliff hanger hinting at Spider Ham. I wouldn't mind another game like SD but have Spider Carnage as the boss maybe have him go through time like in the 90's cartoon show.
