We've heard plenty of numbers regarding Sony's Xperia Play launch games, but few details about what each of its 20 supporting publishers have planned. Gameloft has cleared the air and filled 10 of the potential 50 launch game spots. Beyond Asphalt 6: Adrenaline and Star Battalion, you'll see Assassin's Creed, UNO, Let's Golf! 2, Spider-Man: Total Mayhem, Modern Combat: Black Pegasus, Real Football 2011, Brothers in Arms 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction at launch on March 29.
Trailers for the two packed-in games, Asphalt and Star Battalion can be found after the break, both of which were briefly shown during Sony's (leaked) Superbowl commercial. None of the games have been priced yet.

Assassin's creed sounds great. Are they talking about the original with altair or was that just referencing the franchise I'n general.

Im assuming it's the original one since it was on iOS and almost all of these games are on the iPhone. They are good games by the way, especially Star Battalion.

Probably Altair's Chronicles or Discovery, the two games that are on the DS and smartphones. It could be Lost Legacy, though, which is the new 3DS game. That'd make more sense since it's new.

It's hard to tell if they were being general, vague, or whatever. But as someone who plays iOS games from time to time, they're likely talking about the iOS version of Altair's Chronicles (which was first released on the DS) and/or their version of Discovery, both of which were done by Gameloft. I don't think Lost Legacy b/c that's not being done by Gameloft and this was a Gameloft article. Altair's Chronicles was meh but Discovery was pretty good on iOS.

Ooh, nice line up there. Asphalt 6 looks pretty fun.

Have you ever played Asphalt? It's...not very good.
Besides, this is nothing more than a port of an iPhone game.

@ItsameMatt03 I've found it to be an entertaining mashup of other games like NFS and Burnout. It's lived a long life, from N-Gage to DS to iOS to Android. Just because it's been on iPhone doesn't mean Android fans have to discriminate.

There's already Asphalt games on Android so it's not really a port.

I hope these are not exclusive, Gameloft has to port them over somehow, they cannot require physical buttons, we have been playing more sophisticated games than this on touch screen only for years.

I'd rather just use an Xperia Play for emulators than play Gameloft's knockoff junk. They are to video games as Malt-O-Meal is to cereal.

With the news of the must re-buy crap, interest in this has greatly fallen.

@QuePasa87 My thoughts exactly. As an owner of many psone titles and minis I'm very disappointed. I'm also on Verizon and due for an upgrade...:-(
On that note, now I'm stuck trying to decide whether to get an iphone 4 now, or wait a few weeks for a Droid Bionic. I'm currently a Droid 1 user and intrigued by Playstation Suite. I thought the Xperia Play would be my phone but alas, I need to mull other choices.

Sometime's games are timed-exclusives, where one console may get earlier rights, like Bioshock 1 for example.

Sony's big launch games are a bunch of old iPhone ports...
Awesome stuff Sony, I'm sure the PS Phone is just going to fly off the shelves..

Any word on game prices? Or how it is as a phone?
Posted: Feb 15th 2011 10:44AM grovberg said
Yeah, this is not good news. Gameloft games are fine for phone games where expectations are low, but are not up to the standard of your average DS or PSP game. Gameloft's Assassin's Creed game plays like one of those movie tie-in shovelware games for the DS (think the Megamind or Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs games).
Combine this with the fact that iPhone games actually ARE starting to come up to the standard of DS and PSP games (Rage HD) and the Playstation phone is starting to look like a phone with a D-Pad and nothing more.
