For the next entry in its outlandishly enormous CD box set series, Konami is releasing a collection of music from the Silent Hill series. The Silent Hill Sounds Box, despite its name, isn't just nine discs full of radio static; it's actually eight discs of game soundtracks, from the original through Silent Hill: The Arcade, with a ninth disc full of trailers.
The ¥13,230 ($160) set also includes a booklet full of concept art. It'll be released in Japan on March 16, but is unlikely to make it into even the least haunted towns in America.

Unnecessarily lavish. Why not just offer the whole thing as a download for a tenth of the price?

Lavish? Yes. Unnecessarily lavish? No.

The Silent Hill fan in me is almost willing to throw down $160 for that bad boy... Just to feel like I'm in going to walk into a nightmare world when I walk around campus...

@colinisrad You're in College. Aren't you already in a nightmare world. Or at least your wallet is?

I've only played Silent Hill 2, but I'm totally getting this because of Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.

I would be all over this but then I noticed the different covers. The Lisa SH1 cover is one of the best ones in my opinion.

Oh, great! Silent hill soundtracks are excellent stuff. Wish they would release them in EU as well though. Or even US it'd be cheaper and easier to buy.

This is great! I believe I lost the bonus OST disc that came with SH3 and only had the rest downloaded. I know, I know. :( I could only buy so much music from playasia at the time!
I wish more games came with the soundtrack on a separate disc when you bought it. :( Or pop the game disc in your PC and be able to copy a folder over that already has them in MP3 format like some games do.

Isn't it about time soundtracks, films, etc, got the digital distribution ball rolling a bit more? I'm pretty hesitant to buy large sets of plastic discs when nowadays I'll just copy them onto my machine and never use them again anyway. I'd consider buying this as flacs through steam or something, for instance. The lack of production costs would bring the price down too.
Great set for collectors though. Would be even cooler on vinyl. Do a nice rip initially to preserve it at its highest quality... then spin the heck out of it. Dust and wear would only add atmosphere ;)

I bought all of the Japanese released soundtracks for about....at least 50% or less of this on Ebay a long time ago. Not to mention some of the games came with the soundtracks, so I have multiples of at least 4 games...
