Back at E3 2010 we learned that Tetsuya Mizuguchi's latest creation -- Child of Eden, the spiritual successor to Rez -- can be played using a standard controller, not just the Kinect sensor for which it's become a showcase title. Last night at Microsoft's preview event in San Francisco, we found out that Child of Eden can use 360 pads, plural, for more than aiming and shooting.
A rep for developer Q Entertainment told Joystiq that the finished game will support vibration feedback effects spread across up to four controllers, the idea being that you can stick them in pockets, rolled-up sleeves -- anywhere, really -- to über-compensate for Kinect's lack of physical feedback. Mizuguchi himself told us "When I play the Kinect, I need some feedback" at last year's E3. It would appear that he's devised a quite novel, if not a bit absurd, way to satisfy that need -- not to mention out-crazy Rez's Trance Vibrator peripheral.

@oOWallaceOo he probably knows Rez fans are so rabid they will spend anything for this update to the greatest game ever made.
My guess is Japanese 360s will double to around 5000 that week. Nothing spectacular but still an increase.

Imagine the feel, and pain, of trying to use the 360 controllers the same way as the trance vibrator.

yeah- because it's totally still the 90's and everyone wears baggy cargo pants. who the hell is going to fit a 360 controller into a pocket or or a rolled up sleeve. i guess it's a good thing i still have a mighty collection of fanny-packs....

The "Scene-it" controllers don't have feedback, do they? If they did, that might work a little better.

Bulky and ultimately a horrible idea. There couldn't be sensors attached like Wii Active? I sure as heck hope I don't have to deal with something this lame for the PS3. IF the delay in the game is for the developer to implement the PlayStation Move into the project, that will be announced at E3, then Vibration feedback is all there without the hefty weight. If that's the case, my PS3 will see this before my Xbox 360 does. That's also assuming, the developer is smart enough to implement Move into the PS3 version of the game. If he doesn't, then I smell fanboyism and the PS3 version is a way to make a quick buck. There doesn't seem to be caring nurturing for the PS3 version as is clearly seen. The developer favors the 360 more and says "Hey PS3 gamers, I could get a good look at a T-Bone by sticking my head up a bulls butt." make it work.

@neoXmahi you dont get Q at all. He isn't trying to gain your support. The only reason he is so excited about this game is because Kinect is letting him live his original dreams for Rez.
Go back under your bridge. Mizuguchi is less interested in console wars and more interested in what he can use to create his vision of video games.

Ah yeah. Kevorkian! I've heard of you several times. You're the Dork that everyone barks and complains about and never takes seriously. You're FAMOUS on blogs and I believe your biggest is IGN. You've made your way over to Joystiq. The fact that you've just opened your mouth has made me an absolute LEGEND! and given my post ABSOLUTE credibility, because nobody likes you, except me. And this is why:
"Kinect allows him to build his vision." - Jack Kevorkian
Has anyone else read the rest of his posts on this particular subject? I'm totally NOT kidding when I say this guy is hailed on other websites just about as much as that dude on YouTube that thinks he's the Hitler of the gaming revolution for Sony gathering his band of guys to fight the Xbox 360. He stood at a cardboard pulpit to address his follows and gave himself a trophy for leading the Sony Fanboy army to defeat Xbox 360. I kid you not its there.
Anyway, so this guys vision, was to strap Xbox 360 controllers to arms to not only be able to feel force feedback, but maybe that force feedback with stimulate the arm muscles or in deep pockets leg muscles and make gamers stronger? Having to lift your arms with 360 controllers duct-taped to your arms is hard enough. That was Miziguchi's original vision. To have a stronger gaming world by stimulating the muscles in the arms legs and for males... We won't talk about that.

@neoXmahi Lol I think you are deeply mistaken where my fanboyism is. I am a 360 fanboy through and through. I don't visit IGN and have never set up an account there.
But I'm glad I got to you just the same.
Q expects you to put in your pockets and shit. It not nearly as difficult as you are trying for it to be. He did this a decade ago.
If you had played Rez as much as I had and followed Q you'd know how excited they are about this game and the tech behind it.

I'm sorry but that's horrible. Should I put on my trenchcoat before I play? If there was some sort of cheap non-controller accessory, I could maybe see it but no, thumbs down in my book.

Not a totally stupid idea. The lack of tactile feedback is the key concern have with Kinect (and to a lesser extent, wii and move games which require you to hit or interact with stuff which should have resistence)
Posted: Feb 25th 2011 7:06PM Jack Kevorkian said
@Jovrick There is no lack of buttons. You play with a controller or kinect. He wants rumble feedback he never was concerned with buttons or he would have made a game centered around buttons.

its not that big a deal... i mean you obviously have at least 1 controller other than the kinect right? use it or dont... stop complaining. REZ HD had up to 3 additional controllers to be used for trancevibrational feedback. this is nothing new.

@KiraXD Who is complaining? This was never necessary for the game it's just one of Qs cool things they do.

oh no i know... but some people here are saying its stupid (which is different then complaining i guess lol... it is their opinion after all)
but yeah, its not like Q is taking anything away by adding this. they already had this feature back when REZ HD came out, and in all honesty... i used it a bit, turn up the subs and set the controllers on the bed beside me... pretty cool experience both normally and chemically enhanced. Mizuguchi is one of my favorite developers out there these days.
i remember an interview with him discussing the idea of REZ coming to him while at a rave:
"Another inspiration was Mizuguchi's experience at a rave. "The sound, lighting, and colors were completely synchronized, making it an experience engulfing all senses. We made Rez so that all sounds play at the best time. That allows the player to feel that he or she is creating the perfect beat. In the world of Rez, anyone can be the top DJ."
