@Brained Y'know, if Ryuhei Kitamura made the DMC movie, it'd be perfect. I mean, he did the DMC3 cutscenes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRfhuVlbM-4

But that makes too much sense, and sense is something Hollywood and Capcom do not have.

@wcarnation Kitamura didn't do the cutscenes for Devil May Cry 3, although he did direct the cutscenes for Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Yuji Shimomura, the man who directed the fight scenes from Kitamura's Versus, and also the very bad Death Trance, directed the cutscenes in Devil May Cry 3. Still, Kitamura wouldn't be a bad choice, he does have a knack for directing great fight scenes and his last movie WAS an American movie.

I can't even think of what to say to that. New Dante is horrible, in fact, I'm going to stop referring to him as "New Dante", because I refuse to accept that he has anything to do with Dante.

I will call him New Trish!

But seriously, if this movie is horrible, that's the final nail for Dante's coffin. Which hurts my soul more than you can imagine.

@Apsac D

Dantes coffin was sealed shut when Capcom decided to be smart by hiring shitty writers for their games. Dante was a laughing stock in DMC3 and DMC4. He wasn't the character everyone fell in love with in DMC1. He was a shell of his former self. Always cracking lame ass jokes. Getting shot in the head and just laughing it off. Not taking ANYTHING seriously.

REAL Dante from DMC1 wasn't like that. He was smart and cocky(not stupid) and there was no way Capcom could go back and fix the screw up they did with the two games after DMC1 unless they killed off Dante and started from scratch. As one of the biggest fans of the series since it launched in 2001, I couldn't be any more excited about the reboot and new Dante. It is what the series needs and what Dante needs. Ninja Theory makes great and smart games and they will fix Dante.

Plus Dante doesn't look much different than what he has always looked. Half of his hair is black instead of white(he has a lot of white in his hair, you have to look closely in the trailer, his entire head isn't black) and Ninja Theory said there is a reason his hair is black and it will make sense when you play it.

Give the game and new Dante a chance. Don't write off the game because it looks "different" it will be better than the last pathetic versions of Dante.

You are saying a game series that had intentional b-movie settings and over-the-top action had bad writing? What is wrong with you? Also what is wrong with your username? What is WRONG?

DMC3 Dante was super cool, with the only downside being his bowlcut. Since that was a prequel, his Badassery was still growing, so your point with that is nil.

DMC4 Dante was a more relaxed badass, with plenty of badassery to spare, and the focus of the game was more on Nero anyways, so it left Dante to a supporting role, but that also showed how badass Dante was in comparison to Nero (who was also just super cool as well, with the classic protagonist-switcheroo and all) so that point is also nil.

So here we have you, DanteSparda504, badmouthing a decent series because of two games you decided you didn't like. And you didn't even mention DMC2. At all.

"One of the biggest fans" my ass.

If he were a real fan, he'd be angry about Dante becoming an emo kid who is addicted to meth... But some people just like their once bad-arse protagonists looking like the creative director from the new company behind 'Dante'.

Devil May Cry 1 and 3 are amazing games with an amazing protagonist, Devil May Cry 2 and 4 have an amazing protagonist/support character, but are not quite as good.

@HybridPara Didn't like? I love them. My favorite series of all time. I love the series. I love the characters. I love the story. Capcom fucked with the story.

Dante was a moron in DMC3 and DMC4. His writing was awful. I love him to death, but it was just shameful that Capcom turned such a great character into a kid. I let it pass in DMC3 since he WAS a kid, but when DMC4 came out and completely ignored the fact that Dante was a completely different person in DMC3 and DMC1 and went back to how he acted in DMC3. It made no sense. It was dumb. he was a moron. None of it was believable like it was in DMC1 and his character just did not evolve like he SHOULD have. Fans shouldn't have to settle for B-Movie writing when the first game in the series set up potential for something so much better than what we have got. It is crazy when the Dante in the anime is more like Dante than in DMC3 and DMC4.

And don't even get me started on the Devil May Cry novel, which was absolutely amazing. Still the best part of the Devil May Cry story, and it was completely erased when DMC3 released and made it so it was no longer canon. I hope Ninja Theory uses that novel as inspiration for the story and characters. They were so awesome in that book.

And really? What kind of fan am I because I skipped DMC2? Since you are such a big fan, you should know that all the fans and Capcom don't even acknowledge that DMC2 even exists. It was absolutely awful and the Dante in that game was even worse than the kid in DMC3 and DMC4. There were very few things worth mentioning in that pile of trash.

Also on a side note. Nero was awesome. Just as awesome as Dante and Vergil. Had lots of potential, sad to see he wont be featured any more and I hope he gets introduced in the rebooted series. Also don't let Nero fool you. The story in DMC4 was all about Dante. You may not have played as him as much, but everything was about him. The focus was not on Nero.

And being a bad ass does not make the character good. You have to make the character smart. You have to make the story interesting. You got to have great supporting characters. You got to have the writing to back it all up. Everything is present except for Dante being smart and the writing. DMC1 Dante was a bad ass. He was smart. He was funny. He cared about what was going on. He was human. Only thing lacking from that game is the voice acting(which was much much better in DMC3/DMC4) and better gameplay(which again, was much better in DMC3/DMC4)

@Apsac D Dante didn't become emo nor is he addicted to meth. That is just you being a moron and thinking he is both. He really doesn't look any different at all from Dante in the original games except for the shorter/black hair. That is the only difference(unless you want to get super technical and notice how his eye color is different. Something I noticed immediately)

Since you're hungry... I might as well feed you.

Yeah the Novel was great. Tony Redgrave and all that, it was a cool concept. Also parts of it were still canon since that name was engraved on Dante's guns.

Dante in DMC4 was just as crass and obnoxious as he was in the first game, and it shows as character progression that he calmed down from the massively arrogant, but still badass and young Dante from DMC3.

You keep talking about how Dante doesn't take anything seriously and how "his writing" is terrible, but that makes me wonder... have you even played the first game? You sound like you think you did, and you even sound super elitist.

First 10 minutes of Devil May Cry:
Motorcycle crashes into Dante's shop, he shoots a billion bullets into a motorcycle without reloading his guns, then gets stabbed in the chest and is like, "well whatevs" then he goes to an island to fight the demon king. Almost half an hour later he's stabbed in the chest again by an ELECTRIC SWORD and goes "cool I'M KEEPING THIS."

Yeah, his writing definitely got worse in the sequels. It wasn't intentional or anything, no way. Obviously Capcom didn't know what they were doing when they were making the games. What is so great about things that are too intense for a "believable" character?

If you are a gamer and you went to see any of the Resident Evil films (oh, and while we're here - or these Devil May Cry films either)... then you certainly lose the right to complain EVERY TIME a video-game based movie is crap. Which is, well, every time one comes out...

And yeah, I didn't see any of the films. But I saw the trailer for some of them, and sometimes, you know, that's all it takes. (For those other times? IMDB.)

Ask yourself, will these guys put any amount of money into an original fight scene like the kind you saw in MVC3 when Dante squared off against Deadpool?

There is no bones to make about Devil May cry, it is about a stylistic Demon hunter, who is a braggart and a badass. Is their room for plot sure, but when I pick up DMC I want to see fantastic kick ass scenes as Dante laughs in the face of danger. All of that equates to money, and after seeing resident evil I can tell they will refuse to put the money into a movie that will be that grand.

Everyone of their movies are underwhelming trash, From Underworld, to Legion, to Resident evil. They buy rights to something that in the hands of a visionary might be interesting, but in the hands of these guys will just be a quick cash grab as they expect gamers to march to the movie theaters wallets in hand. And if the right amount of people go they don't care if the movie is well done or utter trash they will make sequels as long as dopey fans are willing to fork over cash.

Devil May Cry is one of those games, like Kane & Lynch, Uncharted, and Max Payne, that are already heavily inspired by movies that are much better than they could ever hope to be.
