Super Meat Boy misses jump to Wii (falls into chainsaw)
24
Team Meat today finally laid to rest the troubled Wii version of Super Meat Boy. "We really tried hard to make this happen but not one publisher we talked to thought a retail budget title for the Wii would be profitable at this point in the Wii's life cycle," reads a missive on the Team Meat Blog, "and we totally understand that."
Initially planned as a WiiWare title, the Wii version of SMB grew beyond the size constraints of Nintendo's digital platform, and so Team Meat began to look into a box-copy release. Perhaps its spirit will live on in the "Ultra Edition" of SMB for PC.

Yeah, that blows. I have it on steam but I would have loved to see it on Wii. They gave it an honest effort so I'm not really disappointed with them

I believe the comment should read "a retail budget title for the Wii WOULDN'T be profitable at this point in the Wii's life cycle"
Sad to hear, but I think it was a good call, Wii retail is a different beast from other platforms, some titles just do not do well that should have. There tends to be a lot of risk for releasing stuff on the Wii for hardcore gamers, not many of them really do well despite cirtical acclaim.

Nope, it's fine. It reads
"[...] Not one publisher [...] thought [it] would be profitable. [...]"

The sentence is correct, "not one publisher thought it would be profitable."
It's a shame with VC games and WiiWare games dictacting what kind of controller you need to use, they couldn't just slap a "Requires a 2GB SD card" on the download. That's what stopped it. The Wii has 512MB of internal memory, som of that is taken up by the firmware. The game was around 1GB. You can get a 4GB SD card in pratically every electronics store for like $10, so it isn't an availability issue.

But the Wii can't (or at least, it doesn't) play games from the SD card. When you play a game from the SD menu, it just copies it temporarily to the internal flash, and play from that. Once you're done, it deletes it from internal flash.

Crappy news, but does this mean the publishers know something about a new huge Nintendo system, that we don't???? Probably not.

Sad to hear I know I would have picked it up for the Wii.
I'm really not into this sort of game on the PC, don't ask me why probably the same reason I can't get behind FPS on consoles. They just don't feel right.
Would have snagged for the PS3 but that looks also to have been quashed.
I wish you only the Best Team Meat.

Team Meat said the game was designed and built to use an analog stick. It's required to get the precise movements necessary to beat the hardest levels.

it probably wouldn't sell that much on the wii anyways. The wii is a causal console so i can't see it selling a lot.

How hard would it be to patch the PC game to use the tilt in a wii remote? All you'd need is a bluetoof dongle.

I wonder how many people will come in here and talk about how lazy Team Meat is.

Well, that sucks, but I understand their issues. I don't mind the Wii's graphical capabilities, but they were really short-sighted in only giving it 512MB of internal storage. And, yeah, the retail scene is tough.
But, there's somewhat of a solution, I think:

Get one of these, and play the PC version with a Classic Controller (Pro)!

Or you could just buy a wired 360 controller and play it the way the game was designed.

But that doesn't solve the issue about there being no Wii version, since it isn't a Wii controller.
And Nintendo makes a far better digital pad than Microsoft.

The PC version is designed for use with a 360 controller though. It's not meant to use a D-Pad.

It'd made to work with A controller, yes. It works with any USB controller (though, they've yet to patch it to allow you to remap the buttons however you like). And between playing the 360 version and the PC version (the latter of which, using a Classic Controller pro via USB), I prefer playing the PC version.

Man. I would have settled for smaller packaged "episodes" at a lower cost.

The writing's been on the wall with this one for a while. It's sad that Wii gamers drummed up the most excitement for Super Meat Boy during its initial production, before it was announced as a cross-platform title.
I would'a grabbed it up.
