Homefront is most pre-ordered title in THQ history
34
Say what you will about the silly and even careless marketing campaign for Homefront, but it appears to be working, as THQ core games VP Danny Bilson told Eurogamer that Homefront has racked up more pre-orders than any other game in the publisher's history. Bilson didn't reveal worldwide numbers, though he noted that 200,000 pre-orders have been made in the US alone.
That would seem to be good news for developer Kaos Studios, whose employees voiced concern over a possible studio move or closure after Homefront's completion. Bilson intimated that the developer's fate rests on the success of the game, saying that sales would "help influence" what might happen going forward; and he insisted THQ hasn't made any decisions at this point. "That's the truth."
"A lot of it has to do with how successful [Homefront] is and how strong that core team comes out on the other side," said Bilson, adding that he "loves" Kaos and that THQ is "trying to do what's best for everyone."

You know it's all because they recently added the TF2 item tie-in.

it's you.
then again, i have no idea why COD sets sales records each year. Personally, this looks much better/interesting.

I flat I told my friend that I am a victim of the onslaught of marketing for this game. I know they're pushing it. I know I've been exposed to the game a lot. The cover is compelling. And I am willingly giving in.
Perhaps there is a part of me that just wants to see them get back some money for all the campaign dollars they've used to lure me in :-D

_> i dont know about most of the people here but i preorder for the headset for free, been needing a new one and that one was nice too matching my controller but i do hope its a good game and not just only for multiplayer. i dont want a single player thats only 4 hours long which would suck mega hard also removing how special the headset is, because if single player sucks and its only design for MP then i got my self a 60 dollar headset when i could have gotten it cheaper and new by itself

"...most pre-ordered title in __THQ history__" No offense, THQ, but you're not exactly a household name. If I mentioned Rockstar, Infinity Ward, Bungie, EA, all my friends would recognize the names. THQ? Nuh uh.
Marketing BS-talk-aside, I'm excited for this game and hope it's good cuz MW3 and BF3 ain't coming out for many, many months.

I preordered and paid off my Homefront copy two weeks ago. I'm pulling for THQ to do well with the game!
Expect to hear me yell "Avenge me!" and "Wolverines!" repeatedy, Team [JOY.]
But...what's all this hubbub about TF2 and hats? I missed that news.

This game is gonna start a war and you'll all be drafted. I however am going to hide in my secret subterranean bunker for about 50 years with my canine companion, Meatdog. Eventually I will find a way to clone Meatdog and use his offspring in my puppy probing system (pps). If the pps finds surface conditions adequate for extraction from the bunker, I will begin mapping the surrounding terrain and eventually rebuild human society as I see fit. No thanks is necessary. I do this out of the goodness of my heart.

When I saw the first announcement and trailers of this game I was thinking "this could be a lot of fun... might even pre-order".
Some dodgy marketing later and.. ah forget it, pass. It's not like I wouldn't enjoy the game, but I'm having to be careful with funds lately so it doesn't take much to talk me out of spending money. Ridiculous (and especially distasteful) marketing puts me off. Promote your game by showing what's good about it, anything beyond that has a tendency to come off a bit patronizing.

Based on this article & the atrocious marketing campaing for the game I am reminded of the marketing mindset that "there is no such thing as bad publicity."
Kinda sad when you think about it. How much you wanna bet for their next game THQ (having been rewarded w/ good sales) will hire a marketing firm to run an even more annoying/bizarre marketing campaign.

I haven't checked out any of the questionable marketing I keep hearing about, but as it is a game by KAOS, the people who brought us a better than decent, ambitious, and slightly underrated Frontlines: Fuel of War, I will probably pick up this game.

THQ has done a great job marketing this game. It still looks like a lame and generic FPS, but hopefully a demo will show me it's worthwhile :)
