The future features of cloud-based gaming service OnLive got a little less nebulous during the company's GDC 2011 panel. Speaking to developers, its VP of engineering, Joe Bentley, laid out a list of advancements gamers can expect by the end of the year.
Among the new features being rolled out for game makers to implement are achievements (not detailed, but we're guessing these are derived from the console versions), voice chat, game invites and the ability to directly upload Brag Clips to YouTube.
The latest version of the OnLive SDK will also enable developers to let their games support wireless controllers when played on mobile devices such as iPad, iPhone and Android-powered contraptions. (But not actual androids -- those guys hate it when you press their buttons.)

If it ever comes to Canada, i'll consider caring. It doesn't look like it's on their plans though. *shrug*

@BoBsS Really?
From their own website:
"At this time, only the US data centers are enabled for the full OnLive Game Service, so if you travel too far from our US data centers, you'll eventually reach the point where you can't play games..."
That's not the kind of service I'd pay for.

@koehler83 Why don't you try out their online service (i.e. without the console), I believe it's free and they have game demos (correct me if I'm wrong) or maybe trials. In any case, I'm sure there are ways for you to test out how well the service works in your area without coughing up cash.

@koehler83 Just try the service and see if it works well enough for you. Just download the client and play a couple of demos.

It's getting better but I still couldn't use that service. I pay good money to reduce my latency in games in both single and multiplayer. Going with OnLive, no matter how good it's getting, just isn't an option for me.

Who can tell me if Battlefield 3 would appear on this?
If yes, I'm hyped as I'm not going to build a rig or buy a gaming PC to play it. I'm for better or worse a comfortable console gamer but those graphics shown thus far blew my mind.
Anyone!?

@a falling stone
Well if he gets the console versions he will be playing at 720p or lower anyways....
and Idk....does EA support this? If it does, I would assume they would put in a console-like experience.
but I doubt it...

@xiLeShadow EA did support OnLive during the beta. Not sure why they have been MIA since the beta ended. May have something to do with them currently supporting Gaikai during their beta period.
With almost every publisher going agnostic when it comes to cloud gaming, I'd really would hate to see a publisher (any publisher) decide that helping to create a "format war in the cloud" as a good idea, and going to one cloud platform exclusively. So I'm hoping that once Gaikai's beta is complete, EA will fully support both services, and not one over the other.
With no less than at least two more cloud services prepping for launch over the next 12 to 24 months, I think the choice of where gamers chose to game, should be left up to the gamer, and not fragmented by greedy game publishers looking to eek out a few extra bucks by taking bribe money to remain exclusive to a single cloud platform.

Perhaps my dream WILL come true. If OnLive will support wireless controllers on Android, then maybe I'll be able to play games using my GoogleTV :)

@MaverickVirus - Oh it's coming. It's already in beta. Matter of fact, Steve Perlman, OnLive's CEO was just showing off the feature a couple weeks ago at the HTC keynote during the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Below is a link to the video of his presentation.

@Tachyonic Cargo Great video! That was perfect. That's exactly what I hoped would happen. I'm kinda glad I got a free OnLive Game System (Seriously they give those out for free if you even say the word OnLive lol) because NOW I have an Onlive Game controller. Now to beg for a beta .apk
