Monday Night Combat update adds Cardboard Samurai outfit, All-Star ratings

Just because you weren't able to make the Bostonian pilgrimage for PAX East doesn't mean you'll be left out of the festivities entirely. Uber Entertainment has launched an update for the PC version of Monday Night Combat which unlocks a decidedly Penny-Arcadey outfit for the game's Assassin archetype: the garments of the honorable Cardboard Tube Samurai.

There's also a new All-Star ranking system, which should let you know exactly how you stack up against the game's other frequent Bullseye-busters. Check out all the new features, as well as a trailer for the CTS outfit, posted after the jump!

All-Star Rating System – The All Star system is a system to rate players so that they have more visibility into the overall skill level on each server. The All Star Rating is a continuously adjusting five star rating. Play well, it'll go up. Play poorly and it'll go down. We will improve the system in future updates as we get feedback and data.

Reduced the benefits of armor endorsements for Assault, Support, Sniper and Assassin.
New Game Summary display before the end game scoreboard
Altered the default Assassin and Sniper builds to include armor endorsements
Increased the chance of JuiceBot spawning during a game in honor of PAX East

now if only they would fix the Spy's facestabs in TF2. holy crap is that bogus.

and whats with all the samurai stuff? TF2 just got a pretty sizable update yesterday with a bunch of samurai hats and weapons.

Samurais are pretty awesome. Also if it gets more sales for Shogun, then I'm all for it. I loved the demo. I wish Japan would put more emphasis on the feudal stuff without making it all over the top.

i got nothing against samurais but some of these TF2 weapons feel kind of forced. cross promotion is fine and good but not when it jeopardises the integrity of the game. time will tell i suppose.

TF2 items have felt out of place for a long time now.

Facestabs are unlikely to ever be completely fixed. The Source engine used predictive movement code for multiplayer, and that's the cause of it. The game will predict, based on your movement, where you will be in the next few seconds based on your direction and speed. Where there is a slight hicup due to changing positions fast, or lag, the game still thinks your are in front of the Spy, and he backstabs you.

It's an inherit bug with the way the game works, so it is unlikely to ever be fixed completely.

@kojo87 I think it's just a coincidence. TF2's update is a promo for Shogun 2, and MNC's Cardboard Tube Samuari is for Pax East. They just happened to do them the same day I guess.

I just have to say this. I'd rather go play teamfortress 2. The game this is trying to be.

Because it has teams and classes? The gameplay is way different from TF2 and if you'd even tried the game you would know that.

I prefer TF2 but MNC plays nothing like it.

@Omega2k3 you should look at the characters and see how similar they are. Medic/engineer in both is a sterotype of their country. Heavy gunner is an idiot. Sniper is a tall twig. The only black guy in MNC look a lot like the demoman and on the PC they pretty much pointed that out and how the whole thing is based on jokes with the classes in general and the way the character are shown and act are very similar to teamfortress 2.

CoD and Battlefield both have Modern Day soldiers with guns.

i don't understand why everyone is so fast to defend MNC. it is different enough from TF2 that it is definitely its own game but the game isn't even that good. Crossfire is just broken. Blitz is pretty fun if you don't get paired up with idiots. i played it for about a week and regretted buying it.

how people can not see the similarities in the characters is beyond me. its like if someone came up with a platformer about two French mechanic brothers with mustaches.

@kojo87 Exactly and i love how everyone else is only looking and the super basic form of the game. I guess shooter is trying to be like an other shooter because it has guns. I'm talking about the character design and the personalities given to them and how the game is all a joke. The only unique character that isn't a slight modified version or fused version of a team fortress 2 character is the heavy with the laser gun.

Down voting me because I'm going against a game that they like. There is a reason why they got dlc to make the soldier, who looks a lot like the demo, look even more like the demo.

Also I have to say is there are gametypes in TF2 that play close to MNC minus the gimmick ofthe bots.

i do like the whole spectator sport aspect of it. thats pretty unique and funny. the mascot, announcer and general quirkiness is pretty entertaining. but take that stuff away and you aren't left with much.

What can you say about any MMO other than WoW? It's like a copy of WoW, why? Because WoW is just so good, everyone would like to get ideas from a product that's really one of the best out there. Same goes for TF2 and this. Nothing wrong about it, it actually looks pretty cool. It looks innovative.

@Caroso Have you even played MNC? It plays nothing like TF2. It's a 3rd person DoTa game.

@Mr Esc is the namesarcasm is my I see you fail to notice the character are way to close to each other in their personalities. They tank in this game and the heavy in tf2 for example are both idiots who also look a lot a like if you see the face. The only difference is the heavy is Russian and the tank is a stereotype surfer.

Continue picking at super basic forms for similarities. I guess the sims and space craft are the same because yo control people in both.

Please never have even a thought of being a game designer as you'd just create repeats of existing characters.

I wouldn't sweat it; other than the cool cosmetic additions there havn't been much content changes. Whatever we've missed they can just tack on to the net DLC.

These devs clearly love the PC community, but I would really appreciate it if they enabled eyefinity... the game is already capable of it, they just need to add the option to choose those resolutions.
