So in 7 years we've seen 2 remakes/ports of this games as well as the (free) original. Cave Story was a great game but can we think about a new game, perhaps a spiritual sequel?

@VeeDeeVee

He did say that he has ideas for a sequel, and now that he's working full time on game development I'm sure he'll come up with something new.

Cave Story is one of my favorite games of the decade, and reignited my passion for 2D side-scrolling games. If he can continue to make games on the same level, I have no doubt that he'll be successful in his new career.

I'm surprised that Cave Story hasn't shown up as a XBLA or Indie game yet. It's perfect for that platform.

And I think he could do really well just making indie games, even though the 360 isn't popular in Japan.

I always thought it was insane that Daisuke Amaya wasn't making games for a living.
It's a great injustice that it took this long for him to become a full-time developer, but it would have been much worse if he never made it. Just what in the hell do you have to do in this world to get a phone call from publishers/developers?

Woah he's a lot younger looking than I thought! Plus I always pictured him as having a moustache.

The game has also been unofficially ported to the PSP.

I just google'd it and it seems Cave Story 3D will be releasing at retail with cartridge and box, which is fantastic! :D
