id Tech 4 again, or does 'cutting edge' mean it will be the first non-id game to use id Tech 5?

I would guess it means it'll be on idTech 5, since Zeni-max can tightly control who gets to use it now. Would be silly if they owned it and didn't let a game they were gonna release use it, especially since it'll come out after Rage has already hit the scene.

Whoa wasn't expecting that. I loved Prey, it had a different pace and feel to most modern FPS games, the environments were just incredible.

But which id Tech engine? I assume the latest.

Lame enemies ripped from DOOM, lame environments, lame weapons, and the characters didn't even feel like they were Native Amercian. Horrible game

I disagree, as I stated below I am native american and the main character seems to be modeled after me in every way. it's creepy.

And anyway what would native american characters act like? do you want them running around like in the movies where they stare at everything in bewilderment, confused by the white man's modern ways? haha

I don't know if you've know but we were forced to conform over the years. we're the same as everyone else.

Yes!
Prey had portals before the Orange Box did ;), and amazing level design in actually using all three dimensions of space. Up would be down and side to side would spin your head. Remember the sphere-world level where you get miniaturized? Sure, the stealthy parts were a little contrived but I thought the "spirit warrior" mechanic worked out pretty well.
This game had more in common with Half-Life than with Doom. Great interior lighting and textures on the spaceship, interesting weapons, and a story that works well enough to get you to the end.

Portals before Portal.
Running around "small planets" before Mario Galaxy.

Some advanced stuff in this game yeah. Loved almost every minute of it. Even the bits that could have been improved (the flying sections) still made me gawp at the beautiful setting and environment.
And that radio narrator, it all came together so well.

I just hope a sequel pushes the envelope as much as the original.

Nice!
Yeah I tried my hand at Gears of War but it's was too cliched, homoerotic, linear and dull to keep me entertained. But it has bulky men shouting and huuuuge explosions so I can see the appeal.

So you've never played Prey, then. That one is actually pretty tame compared to some of the orifices you have to walk through in the game.

NOICE. I actually did finish this game. I was highly impressed at the main character's personal growth from start to finish.

I so wanted to kick more alien @$$. Then 3D Realms died. :(

My only request: no more vaginal doors (see picture up above)

It must have sold well. They ran out of keys for Steam! Valve didn't get any more keys so they had to remove it from sale.

Mad huh! You'd think if a game was selling so well that, you know, they'd fix it and let people continue to give them money for it!

@VeeDeeVee

The reason why it sold out was 'cause they were selling it during a sale for $2 and they couldn't get more keys because of 3D Realms going under.

I'm not saying that it's not a good game (I'm having to track a retail copy down to play it, as I only played the demo), I'm just saying the circumstances under which it sold tremendously well were atypical. =P

The problem Prey 1 had was being able to come right back to life every time i died. I had no incentive to try to stay alive after a while because i knew i'd just drop back in where i was before. From there, it just became a trek to make it to the end. I hope they can fix it, because it really ruined the game for me. Other than that, i loved the environments and they made really good use of the id tech 4 engine, much better than anyone else had.

the first one was good but man it was weird for me because the main character was essentially me. It was really eerie. All of my friends said the same thing.

A sarcastic, cynical native american that even looked and talked exactly like me.

I don't know if I can handle that again

MGS needs to talk to Bethesda-Softworks about keep this game exclusive to the Xbox 360, tired of MGS letting games go to the other platform. stop wasting cash on bull-sh one month timed exclusive content , why not use that cash to buy IPS or the studios that own them. what's next your gonna sell your IPS cause you think it's a great idea that everyone enjoy the games . enough with throwing money out the window crap, let us return to the ways of old when you were a cutthroat company & bought an IP or a company just so your competition could not have it . those were the days, you guys need to get your balls back soon. still wish Bill was still running MS.

@Architecture the game was a 360excl. but now it seem to be going to other plats & MGS is doing nothing to prevent it. plus am getting tired of this bullshit one month timed crap, they need to buy IPs or the companies that own them ,not waste money on time crap. cause as yesterday i get the feeling my second console is turning in to multi-platform console w/ no desire to own exclusive IPS or offer any . this all began the minute Ballmer & cronies were put in charge at MS, when bill was in charge other companies feared MS or just plain hated them. to me it seem MS has lost it's cutthroat edge.(

chill out man. it was never a 360 exclusive (it also came out on the pc). the reason the first one wasn't released on the ps3 is the same reason that games like condemned, saints row, call of duty, and ghost recon are also not featured in their entirety on that console -- because the ps3 was not the system that it is today, and because some of those games came out before the ps3 was even available to own.

the ps3 was released in america on november 17, 2006

prey came out in july, 2006
saints row came out in aug, 2006
ghost recon came out in mar, 2006

and call of duty 2 and condemned were launch titles for the 360.

get your shit straight man...prey is one title that i highly doubt microsoft EVER paid a cent to keep "exclusive".

@Liquidfingers fine yes did some research it turns out to be true what you have stated , but still does not change my mind about how MGS is running their division or how the are letting things go or leave. what they should do is stop that practice of one month timed exclusive crap & quit wasting that money that could be used to buy IPs or companies that own them & replenish their first party exclusives . as for the Ballmer stuff he has screwed up MS image of cuthroat mentality they had under Bill gates.

ehh I like the newer, less douchey Microsoft for not buying up games just so we couldn't have them on the PS3, especially since my 360 died many moons ago. Maybe they will learn from Sony and not buy IP's from third parties, (very douche) and will instead buy the companies making them so they can be optimized for their system, (much less douchey). At least make it so there is a reason, other than the money hat, for the exclusivity.

But they aren't. They were pretty cool, but being that they were stationary, permanently affixed to certain spots in the environment and always opened at the same pre-determined spot, they weren't nearly as advanced as Portal's which all had to be calculated in real time based on the player's input.
