Well we already knew when the next-gen consoles were coming out. But this pretty much solidifies it. 2015 will be the release of the first next gen console & we'll be seeing an announcement very soon.

@Prboi

That´s of course if we don´t have another super add-on like kinetic in 5 more years just to add more life to the current consoles....
But seriously, this shows now more than ever why Crytek NEEDS to do something with their engine if they ever dream to see it used for something more than crysis. Tip: give it for free with a program similar to the one of unreal, don´t just "consider it" do it....... or be just another small fish in the huge unreal ocean.........

I spent the last several seconds trying to find that clown's left arm ...

I figured Bruce tore it off and stuck it down clown pants, still can't see the arm and said clowns package looks suspiciously big.

That guy doesn't have a left arm. Batman's brand of justice doesn't discriminate.

I guess I am one of the few that can't wait for next-gen consoles and a few years off is a LONG time. This will probably be the longest console gen ever. We should normally see consoles around 4-5 years as history shows. I hope at least the PC doesn't have to be held back for too long, I hear the PC typically shines again at the end of a console cycle...

@Shadsy I see lots of people saying that. Is this console-gen more future proof than previous ones? I don't think so. Its because we're so used to seeing these current graphics and only after exposure to PC gaming, or trailers like that recent Epic Engine one, THEN people pine for better graphics.

Otherwise, console gamers would be happy with their current consoles indefinitely!

Fantastic. I've always wanted more games to be filled with men who all have the same ridiculously muscular physique.

Not that I'm saying games with UE suck. It's just that the character models are very off-putting. Maybe it's different for females, I don't know.

How do people feel about Unreal engine 3 vs. Id Tech 4?

@edit

Do graphic engines need to be sequalized? How about dating them?

Unreal Engine 2012 vs Id Tech 2014.

@CaptainProtonX Dating would make more sense for sure, but hey, it's the devs themselves numbering their engine iterations..

I'm just curious about what people who have played games using (or better, modded\developed on) both engines think about their relative strengths and weaknesses. I haven't played any of the Id Tech 4 games beyond mucking around with the Doom 3 demo so I know little about it beyond that it added dynamic per-pixel lighting.

I'm still quite pleased with current gen graphics, especially those in PS3-exclusive games. As current gen console graphics contiunue to plateau, hopefully we'll see better stories, innovative control schemes, character development, etc. all improve to compensate.

@RKN

That trailer is pure CG.

CG can be made to look good on considerable less powered hardware then would be needed to actually render anything close to that in game.
