Looks pretty cool--good way to while away the afternoon, perhaps

@TheChezDispenser If it's old-school Wizardry (and I think it is), an afternoon might get you halfway through the first dungeon level, if you aren't murdered first.

I think I'll check this out, this looks a lot like the older Wizardries, which were quite popular in Japan back in the day. Wizardry and Ultima pretty much laid the seeds that would grow into Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy out there.

Wizardry 8 was my favorite of the series, but that was a touch different from the older ones.

Wow, the graphics are stunning in comparison to the last Wizardry game I played. WIreframe corridors and it cost $60 back in 1981.

Dear XSEED: May we have the DS game Wizardry:The Pledge of Life before all support of the DS is lost?

The DS will be the PS2 of handhelds. It just won't die, especially where JRPGs are concerned.

I tried the Japanese demo and it seemed very archaic. Menus to get around the town, push directions to take one step through dungeons. Fine for a certain type of gamer, but very non-modern.

I wonder if *every single treasure chest* you run across will be trapped like in all the other ones.

Sweet! Treasure!! (accidental open box) -> (team member dies, the rest are poisoned)

@Draugdraugr
You do realize that XSEED just localizes and publishes games, right? They don't do any in-house developing.

@Deuce

Fair enough.

I don't think that taking that into account changes my position though.
It would seem the only reason its has wizardry tacked onto it is to boost sales, not to improve the frachise. Which this appears to have nothing to do with.

yeah, i was thinking the other day. i bet you could take alot of those old skool rpgs. a bard's tale, ultima, wizardry, might and magic... and reduce them to one umd for the psp. how awesome would that be if they got that together?

I never got around to playing Wizardry back in the day but this looks like a cool throwback, I'll have to at least check out the demo on the Japan store.

Initial reaction: excitement, since Wizardry 8 is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. Then I looked at the screenshots, and I'm getting the impression that this is much less a Wizardry-style classic RPG and more likely a Wizardry-branded, Etrian Odyssey knock-off. The former is a deep, character-driven, narratively rich experience, while the latter is a shallow, combat-driven, repetitious dungeon crawler. I hope I'm wrong, as I would be extremely happy to see another addition to the Wizardry series which is worthy of the name.

@AtomicPlayboy

Honestly, it's a little bit of both. Don't let the anime style rankle you. And really Etrian Odyssey's modern time and effort saving features really give the dungeon crawler genre a serious bolster.

I am excite! It's just tempered by the fact I've no PS3 nor urge to get'un.

Wizardry is a cool template. Etrian Odyssey was booooring, though.

Oh, and: the true meaning of "Dungeon Crawlers".
