wow, this is the most incredible douchebag remark I've ever read here.

First of all, the event had already been planned last month, so no, they aren't using the quake. Heaven forbid they use the publicity to take a moment and raise a few more funds for these people who's towns and loved ones were wiped off the face of the planet. They didn't use the disaster to promote the game, they're using the promotion to bring more aid in.

Even if they decided to come up with the event afterwards, so what? It's still a good deed. You think the people who benefit from this relief will go "no, forget it, i think this aid was bought by money raised by people who were also promoting something else at the same time."?

In both things the main character, an irresponsible nerd, has to fight x number of evil (assassins/exes) and the person behind it all was their number one evil ex, who also shares a name with a cat, all this done for the sake for dating a mysterious woman they are in love with.

Beyond that, they don't have that much in common. Travis' character faults are more or less the same as Scott's, but they are so grotesquely exaggerated they don't really resemble each other in the end. Besides, one story is pretty much a drama/comedy with some action thrown in for the sake of spicing things up and the other is a straight action/parody with some dark moments (let's not confuse "dark" with "violent" because the game sure as hell didn't have violent "moments") here and there.

Scott Pilgrim and No More Heroes both have heavily stylized art, and 8-bit influences. They both feature swords and enemies that turn to coins.

These aesthetics are what they have in common.

But the core of scott pilgim is that it uses it's ridiculous video game style to punctuate emotion and symbolize battles within relationships. No More Heroes is honestly just about being number one and getting laid. It's not about the story, or even about how the characters interact with each other. It's about awesome action and crazy, ridiculous bosses.

@CaramelZappa There's a common interpretation that it's a commentary on the videogame industry as a whole and honestly that's pretty much the only way NMH 2's ending even comes close to making sense, but yes, both things are way too different from each other.
