The 900 Wii Points for Chrono Trigger is used >because of< the DS version. By selling it on the VC, even though it's cheaper, they still make more proftit than selling a copy of the game on the DS since there's no material costs etc. So they're not like "Because we can" but instead "well, if we're gonna cut into our own sales, we might as well...".

Seems to make sense but Chrono Trigger DS is the better deal because...

- It's portable!
- It has a post-game set of dungeons and areas that connect the game to Chrono Cross
- Explains what Chrono Cross's final boss actually is

I've never finished this game. I have tried it about 10 times. Each time I get about halfway through and quit because I am bored. I will probably start my 11th time soon. Maybe I will get through it this time.

It's funny because it was probably my favorite RPG at the time when it came out and in the past year or so I've started and restarted the DS version twice now and I can't seem to get through it either.

If you keep restarting it up to 11 times, there must be something pulling you back to it each time.

@MrSmiley1 I don't know how you could have got bored with this game, unless you just don't like RPG's in general. I almost couldn't put it down until I finished it.

No, I do like RPG's. I have been playing RPG's since I got my free copy of Dragon Warrior for Nintendo Power however many years ago that was. I keep going back to this game because it is held in such high regard. I feel that I am missing something and I just can't find it, so I quit.

@SewerShark I think the sprites give it a certain charm that would be lost with 3D Graphics, they could give it polished sprites like the ones on the FF IV remake though.

I would agree, but if it was handled in a similar way that Dragon Quest VIII was handled, due to both having Akira Toriyama artwork, it would be great.

It was tried at one point but the lawyers for Square Enix gave the official "Cease and Desist" letter.

WHY?!!!

Mega Man X is still one of my favorite platformers ever. I wish they'd revive that series the same way they revived they revived the Mega Man series with 9 and 10.

as in 16-bit SNES-style graphics & gameplay? I'd be sold on that. I never did play much of X6 or anything later. Sometimes 'tried & true' really is just that.

Japanese VC actually utilizes a RPG tax. Mario RPG, Fire Emblems, Shin Megami Tensei, Final Fantasies... all of them carry a 100 point premium.

And in this case, I'd pay 2000 Reggies for the greatest game of all time.

Too bad Chrono Trigger came out on DS recently, or I would be really excited for it on virtual console. I'm definitely waiting for a US release of Mega Man X though.

If you're not against discs, there's always this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Man_X_Collection

Could play on Wii (with a GameCube controller) or a PS3 (on a model that has PS2-backwards compatibility).

Kinda disappointing that there's no guarantee we'll get these. But they likely will bring them over at some point; it makes little sense to keep big sellers like these confined to one region.

That said, I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I will actually buy them. Again. This would be the fourth time I've bought Chrono Trigger (SNES, PS1, DS) and (technically) the fourth time I've bought Mega Man X (SNES, SFC, PSP). Despite my natural instinct to buy them immediately upon release, I think I may have bought these two games enough by this point.

1.) If it were in NA and not JP, then I would be excited.

2.) You can get a perfect port of Chrono Trigger on the DS for super cheap. So I can't imagine anyone who comes to this site owns a Wii and not a DS as well...so....yeah....

Nowhere near perfect port.

The retranslation pretty much ruins the game.

Mega Man X was a great game, but I can't figure out why fans of the game (or series) didn't just pick up the Mega Man X Collection for Gamecube when it was out. Even now I'm sure you could find it used in stores. Might me more then the $10 that you'd pay for this on VC, but you get all the Mega Man X games (or at least most of em... were any released after that collection?).

How many copies of Chrono Trigger do I need? I played it when it was on SNES as a wee lass and yeah it was good. It's not the type of game that needs to be friggin ported to every console in site like Pacman or Dragon's Quest.

Next thing you know, Chrono Trigger can be played on cellphones.

"Chrono Trigger, Mega Man X coming to Virtual Console in Japan"....only to have North America get skipped. While it's good that Capcom/Square Enix received substantial bribes in order bring these games to the VC, I'm awfully pessimistic that they'll reach the US. Earthbound, Terranigma, Seiken Densetsu 3, Rurdra no Hihou (Treasure of Rudra) is all we need to complete the VC.
