@Tradio

I hope people know that DX11 pipelines are much different from DX9 pipelines when creating meshes/models. If they did everything from the get go with just DX9 in mind, it will be a long while before a DX11 patch that's worth a damn actually comes out.

@Tradio I bet even if it comes out, it will be underwhelming. Face it, Crytek has whored themselves out to consoles, I bet Crysis 3 won't even make a PC release.

I want the level editor to come already, it shipped with the 1st game, why not this one!?!? Oh yeah, they want to sell us PC gamers DLC instead of letting us make our own maps! Great!

Eh what do you expect from a console port. At this point they should have just abandoned the PC release.

@sicsided Well crytek could have a small team working on the patch while the main team is work on crysis 2 then merge the 2 teams to finish the patch i think the patch would be out by the summer.

I honestly think they should've kept it in but given those who used it, or those who don't, a little symbol next to their name on the scoreboard. Then the people that need to use it can use it and those who don't can brag that they don't. I can't help but think some people might be restricted to controller use for whatever reason and might need that in order to enjoy themselves.

@fifthbus With a mouse and keyboard you don't need autoaim, you already have precision. If you're so bad you can't even spray in the vague direction of somebody you probably shouldn't be playing games.

It depends somewhat on the quality of the mouse and mouse surface. While I'd take it almost universally over a controller for an FPS, not all setups are going to give the same quality of control here.

@fifthbus You would have to be using a broken wheel mouse underwater with your eyes closed before you would NEED autoaim to compensate.

@Excessive - Auto-Aim in Crysis 2 is excessive even on the consoles. It's like the gun is magnetized to enemies. Obviously it makes things a lot easier, but it isn't needed.

Is that really surprising to anyone? I mean, the main purpose of autoaim is to compensate for the limited precision and slower turning speed of the analog sticks, a non-issue for mouse gaming.

I always turn it off too. It feels like cheating and I like a challenge.

But I always thought it was automatically turned off in multiplayer? If not, then that might explain my not-so-incredible kill/death ratio in most FPS games. :)

Not all the time...Halo used to drive me batsh!t. :p I don't mind it on the receiving end though...levels the playing field...the only time it bothers me is when people use mods and can *suddenly* run perpendicular, full-tilt sprinting, in mid air, at sniper range, and 1-shot you with a pistol...each and every time.

@Brando Calrissian: In fairness, it's needed in a game like Reach. Try shooting your teammates. Now take that ridiculousness, and apply it to the rest of the game.

This game is a far cry (pun not intended) from Crysis and Warhead, not surprising since it was designed for consoles unfortunately. : (
Dumbed down in graphics, gameplay, story (doesn't take place after the original games).

Damn shame Crytek, thanks for selling out to the consoles. Shame that's where all the $ is, the lowest common denominator!

So because they made a game that's not set directly after the first games story, the story has been dumbed down?

This must have a pretty bad story then. I don't exactly remembering Crysis and Warhead having any story at all. Pretty much a case of "lol enemy island, lol, teh enemies haz awoke teh aliens!" Still great games though. I was a big fan of the originals, and the things I'm hearing about C2 are extremly disappointing (as well as the poor quality graphics on the demo) Still, the removal of auto aim just moved it nearer to the top of my purchase list.

To all the PC gaming holdouts who bitch at Crytek for 'selling out' to consoles or 'dumbing the game down', you realize, no matter what you say, your basic arguement is basically "Hey- Crytek, why are you trying to sell more copies of your game? You want people to play it or something?"

Keep up the great work Crytek!

""Hey- Crytek, why are you trying to sell more copies of your game? You want people to play it or something?"

That's not the problem. The problem is that, compared to the game's predecessors, much of the core functionality Crysis fans are used to has been gutted from the game. We once had twelve menu options to adjust visuals...we now have just three presets and had to BEG for the dev console to be reenabled so we can adjust the game's CVARs. We had a DX10 executable and multi-GPU support right of the box 3 years ago; we don't have one and the other is so horribly broken that is has to be disabled in order to prevent artifacts from showing up in game. With Crysis, we had a Sandbox editor and unencrypted texture .pak files that allowed the community to turn out dozens of mods that greatly enhance the game (high res texture packs, physics mods, and even shaders that achieve much of Crysis 2's new GI features); Crysis 2's .paks are encrypted and we will never be getting a Sandbox editor (Crytek's UDK alternative is not mentioned as being Crysis 2 compatible). Water effects HAVE BEEN DUMBED DOWN; gone is the rainbow when mist hits light, water reflections have been scaled way down, and waves are lacking geometry because the current crop of consoles are polygon powerhouses. Motion blur quality has been severely reduced; Crysis's object motion blur only worked in DX10 and it seems its sequel uses a lower quality knock off in DX9. The quality of post processing effects like DOF have been reduced as well. Buildings are no longer destructible and cars are, more of than not, just static objects that can't be damaged instead of being...ya know...destroyable.

Hell, things have been taken out of the game for no real good reason. In Crysis and Crysis Warhead, you could switch to the interior view of a vehicle when you were driving/piloting it; you can't do that in Crysis 2. In Crysis and Warhead, if you went to get a new weapon or to pick up ammo, you actually reached down to get it instead of having it just magically appear in your hands or cache. Those add a fair amount to the game's immersion; removing them makes ZERO sense.

I have the game and I'm enjoying it thus far. But having sunk countless hours into Crysis, Warhead, and Crysis Wars, I don't think you are and others like you are really in any position to call people like me out for seeing the game's shortcomings for what they are. Crytek wanted their game to be more accessible. I can completely accept that. What I can't accept is that, in order to appease console gamers, they seem to have forgotten the platform that kept them in business for the better part of a decade and the PC gamers who bought 3 million Crysis copies. We don't have a PC game at heart; we have a console game that simply scales up much better than others.
