Since its inception, the Red Faction franchise has been heaped with praise for its capacity for environmental destruction -- a fact that hasn't eluded the series' handlers. In an interview with CVG, Red Faction: Armageddon production lead Dan Sutton explained, "In Guerrilla there was a kind of moral issue. When you were destroying buildings, you thought, 'Should I really be doing this?' But in Armageddon we've completely thrown that out and we're basically motivating players to destroy everything in sight."
That quote is surprising in two distinct ways: First, we can destroy everything in sight? So, like, the whole planet? Wouldn't that ruin the game a little? Also, we were supposed to feel bad when destroying buildings in Guerrilla? We ... didn't get that. It's hard to feel guilty about something when you're busy giggling and yelling for your friends to come check out this totally dope new crater you made.

I mean, the civie buildings didn't drop any salvage.. but I never felt bad about destroying them.

Are you kidding? They're pretending that people were worried about the moral implications of Red Faction?

I'm still thinking that it will never run on my laptop, considering that Guerrilla barely does.
Unless they pull a Mass Effect 2, where it ends up looking and running better than the original.

As a guy who blew up Megaton, shot everyone in MW2's airport scene, killed hookers in GTA, killed both guys in Singularity in the end, killed Ashley with a bear trap, I didn't even know I was suppose to feel bad by leveling a house.
Should I feel bad that I demolish houses in BFBC2?lol

I lol'd about destroying the entire planet. I'm pretty excited for this game even though I haven't seen too much about it. Guerrilla was actually a really good game that a lot of people overlooked (I know I did at first) and I'm excited to see how they're going to improve everything this time around.

I loved the destruction engine in RF:G. I was kind of sad when I ran out of EDF buildings to destroy. Its just so satisfying to take a sledgehammer to a building.

Funny, I'm playing RF:G right now. Don't feel sorry for blowing stuff up at all.

I too wonder if everything will even be destructible in the first place. I remember with Red Faction 1, you could destroy land at will allowing you to make your own tunnels if you wanted. Did they re-introduce that perhaps or is it still just buildings?

I dunno what this guy was talking about. My conscience wouldn't allow me to leave an area unless everything was reduced to rubble.

Unfortunately, RFA won't be the open wasteland of RFG. It's been explained previously by Volition that this game will be both linear and underground, two conditions which for me equal "less fun" by default.

I'm just not feeling this new RF. I just don't dig the Red Faction meets Dead Space thing.

I just have so little interest in this game. The last one bored me to death. Destroying stuff was fun, But that got boring fast. RF1 is still the best.

Agreed these new rf games don't deserve the title, red faction was a great story driven fps WITH destruction, now its just a mindless go here and destroy everything in sight

Playing the red faction demo. I think it's okay when judged alone. But I really wanted more of a Guerilla 2. I liked the open world and driving etc. The single path shooter idea is not ad cool. Cool weapons but..
