I dunno, I just feel like donating through farm ville that the money would not end up making it Japan at all.

It's going directly to benefit the people of JapanVille, a new game by Zynga.

@Dirty I thought the same thing. It's nice of them to donate, but I don't quite understand why they wouldn't just go directly to a charity organization.

@(Unverified) Exactly. She may dress like David Bowie, Madonna and KISS's lovechild but she is pretty astute when it comes to social networking and the power that it holds. Kudos to her and all that have raised the money.

Now, if only she (and other celebrities) would donate some of their own personal money instead of their fans' money...

like what? anyone with money can donate money, it's not a huge achievement that deserves praise. In fact, I ask: Why didn't she do it anonymously?

Donating to them so they could donate it to Japan...? I have a two theories: A) Lady Gaga is stupid. B) Zynga is hiding something from us.
Or both.

@philmcfail What's stupid is that she's donating through a internet flash game company instead of a more reputable organization that's sole purpose is for situations like this and not making sure your virtual crops are well tended to.

@philmcfail Because that means that most of the money will not go as intended. It will be bounced around a bit, put through the hands and banks accounts of different people, and then FINALLY giving to the Red Cross to spend OR to an other "charity" that put more cuts to on it and then distribute the cash. It happens like this with all charities.

I thought it was Gagaville. Naaa but seriously, all it does is make people think "Zynga really cares" when all they had to do is say " were starting one of those donation thingys so, yeah" Zynga probably hasn't even donated anything themselves.I guess y'all can probably tell I don't like Zynga. But kudos to Lady GaGa!

Half of which? So you mean only 750k went to japan?

Zynga is the absolute last company on Earth I would send money to that was meant to go to disaster relief in Japan. What's wrong with just sending the money directly to the Red Cross?

I'll tell you what's wrong with it - if she had done that then that absolutely evil, horrible company wouldn't have gotten their cut.

I have no freakin' idea why'd they donate through Zynga. Why not just donate directly to Japan or Red Cross, etc. like what the commenters here have already said.

Don't be surprise when a new web browser or flash game by Zynga will be released relating to Japan or Tsunami cause that's where the money would likely land. haha j/k.

I bet Lady Gaga got a lot of freebies (coins, free tomatoes, instant finish when plowing, lots of stamina to hit some mafia) from Zynga games now that she donated. =)) haha

The press release did say "bringing the grand total raised to more than $3 million". The careful wording of the article made it seem a little iffy.

That's exactly what I though too, until I re-read it, and realised it said:

"... Ms. Gaga's massive $1.5 million contribution to Zynga's continued Japan relief efforts, half of which joined Zynga's donation, adding to the $2.5 million already raised ..."

Half? Where the hell did the other 'half' of her contribution go?? 'Half' of her contribution, as stipulated, would bring the total to just over $3m, whereas, her total $1.5m donation should've brought the total up to $4m.

Despite what some people may say, shes actually one of the few good active artist right now. Not like she has much competition though.

Anyway, always cool to see thee celebrities donating to help efforts, no matter what whacky way.
