Ghost Recon dev's 'authenticity program' explained
18
Have you ever noticed how firearms in Red Storm's Ghost Recon games don't look and sound like tiny little baby cap guns? There's a reason for that -- the team has its own "authenticity program," which is the subject of this recent University of North Carolina news report.

This is disappointing to me, as they explained in a magazine article a while back how they used to do this for rainbow six, but in vegas and vegas 2 they rebalanced the guns and changed the audio to fit peoples expectations as opposed to being realistic.

Totally off-topic: give us those April Fool's fake jokes you surely have been cooking up for months already!
I actually feel there's gonna be a lot of overused jokes about DNF all over the net this year...

This is pretty stupid considering any top FPS game nowadays like COD MW1-2/BO, MOH, battlefield they all use real gun sounds for there games.
So iono kinda lame to even bother reporting about all this or making a big deal about ghost recon having a "authenticity program"...

My big question is, how many times are companies going to keep re-recording the sounds of actual guns before it's "perfect?" Hasn't this been done about a dozen times over already? I'm surprised that the raw stock sound footage hasn't been made public domain like stock images.
This sort of thing can't possibly come cheap, and it seems like re-inventing the wheel everytime a new FPS game rolls out.

That's one thing that annoyed me about Homefront: all the guns sound the same.
Also, the pistol you get at the beginning of Half Life 2 sounds like a children's air pistol. Horrible.

That's great news and well-known to those who support tactical FPS.
Now Ubisoft... produce another great Ghost Recon game and not further dilute the market with crapware GR-esque titles until the Ghost Recon name means nothing.
Ghost Recon games do not need to be on every console/handheld and surely do not need to be pushed out like a pimp trying to saturate the market with his 'almost like (insert a popular game)' prostitutes.
...now if you excuse me I'm going to play some more ARMA II with friends...

Oh man, I love this! My dad was in the military as well and I spent a lot of time on bases (Fort Campbell and Hanscom Airforce Base anyone?).
Not to go off-topic, but I wish the music industry was more authentic. We're losing this, across the board for entertainment.

Um is redstorm even apart of future soldier? It seems like this was done 5 years ago during the GRAW period.

Red Storm is still working on Tom Clancy games? I assumed they had only worked on the first three Rainbow Six games and the first two Ghost Recon.

My brother is the man holding that camera...he does most of the video production at Red Storm...lots of trips to specialty Gun makers and "testing fields".
