Stepping into April means we're one month closer to L.A. Noire's May release, but it's not enough. We just can't wait to hit the streets of 1940s Los Angeles as a hard-boiled beat cop, and this update from the official Rockstar blog isn't helping. Not only are there new screens to see, but we get details on two early cases in the game. One's a standard "robbery in progress" call tasking you with delivering a bit of shotgun justice to the local grocer, and the other one's a crime scene investigation, where you've got to hunt for a murder weapon in the dark.
Rockstar also says that walking the beat and solving these crimes is "how you pay your dues" as a uniformed officer, so not only are you out to right wrongs, but you're trying to impress the higher-ups and make detective as well. It just sounds like too much fun -- come on April showers, bring us a new Rockstar game already!

This game seems like Rockstar's least ambitious. I've barely heard any hype around this game beyond that it's Rockstar's take on a detective game. I want to be interested but nothing's really doing it for me.

Its basically LA Confidential: The Game. If that's not your thing, then so be it, but everything about this is ambitious for Rockstar. Its a non-sandbox, single-player, period-piece game with a focus on subtlety and innovative new motion capture tech.

@AngryTurds A video game centered around 1940s crime drama is a common genre you are right.
I'm being sarcastic you are what is wrong with the industry. All industries.

What? Are you serious? When was the last time you played a MATURE detective game that takes place in the golden 40's, that revolves around collecting and finding clues, and interrogating suspects by reading there facial reactions? Less ambitious my ass. I'm sorry but you must be the type of person who thought BlackOps was the god of ambition...:/

I really hope the clue finding actually takes some skill, and you're not finding magical, pixie-dust covered, glowing murder weapons.
Unless there's a case involving a pixie. In which case...by all means...

@Crimsic from what we saw at PAX east, it seems like finding clues is more about being therough than difficult per-say. That said, the acting, setting, and writing (at least the 2/3rds of the mission we got to see) was so fantastic im not sure thats gunna bug me? It really felt like a true interactive movie/crime drama and, while some choices will branch the path of a mission, the rockstar rep said each mission is ultimately linear/has one conclusion.
Not sure the average gamer will appreciate this title :)

@Franklin Gothic I don't think they will. CoD is probably the limit of their ambitions. Having said that, Rockstar has built up enough capital to be ambitious on this. They have their expectations set already. It's just so refreshing when a company can take a "risk" like this and not just keep churning out generic crap.

why does someone in the comments always say it's non-sandbox when they keep saying in PR release that you're in a big open rendetition of old LA. I understand if they say it because it's supposed to more directed and less shoot 100 pigeons across the map, but this still sounds like it has Rockstar's signature bread and butter cash maker of an open world sandbox.

Because Rockstar themselves says its not a sandbox game. Its an open-world game, but with a distinct relatively linear storyline. Its not about running around an open-world doing whatever you want and causing chaos, i.e. sandbox.
